It’s very hard to keep working on a story about a queer black kid knowing how most people in this country feel about black people and queer people. Especially a story THIS personal.

Aside from pure ignorance and cowardice, this whole idea of “parents don’t wanna have to talk about real life with their sheltered children” is dripping in privilege.
I can assure you little brown boys and girls don’t have that luxury, for example. Embarrassing.

RE: the feature/series dilemma. I’m nearly done with the feature, and I can honestly say that this works very well as one. I wasn’t convinced at first, mainly bc I had so much that I wanted to include. But honestly… yeah I see it now, this seems to be working.
