When covering people in power, it’s always important to ask why they’re leaking that information to you & what you uncritically printing it does for their side of the deal. I think a lot of mainstream coverage misses the reality of the power dynamic between owners & workers.
I think a lot of the coverage is very one-sided; obviously some of that is due to the fact that the PA isn’t really doing much in terms of comms. But when quoting a league source in terms of an offer, I think contextualizing the offer from a worker perspective in important. 1/
Want to know why so much coverage of CBA negotiations is shitty? Because most labor reporters largely ignore the entire field of sports. Most of the books on the history of labor organizing don't include sports unions at all. So you end up with sports reporters covering labor. They're diff skillsets
