The US has a unique electoral system where the popular vote can be lost by a candidate or there is a slim margin between candidates and a candidate without a massive majority can be elected president off the back of votes by state representatives who form the electoral college
There's always going to be a vocal minority giving some backlash, calling them out and showing their views aren't shared is the way forward. Not branding visibility as needless and criticising it, that sends the opposite signal and encourages them.
Gay visibility in Chesterfield is neither needless or new, Wednesgay night was a thing in 2002 and it's church is hardly straight.
“I WRITE as a feminist and the parent of a trans teenager. I have also spent years working to safeguard women and children. I understand risk – and where harm comes from”…
Sure is! Mine does exactly the same
Far better than getting them on Amazon 👍

This essay is a tour de force. To trans people, it reads as a grim reminder of the litany of indignities and travesties visited upon us by the UK government. To cis people, I hope, it is a bracing and sobering wake up call to how illiberal the UK and Labour have become. 1/

This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

The EHRC is meant to protect everyone’s rights. But internal documents reveal a different story: repeated meetings with anti-trans lobbyists, legal bias, and secret coordination. We filed the FOI. Here’s what we found.

Get your cis friends to read this. It reveals how the anti-trans hate groups are really part of a web of extremist right-wing hate groups…
This is a very, very good explanation of the failings and corruption in the Equalities & Human Rights Commission by Ian Dunt. Well worth a read especially for people who are not totally au fait with what is going on.
This is a very good piece.
