Statement on Proposed HISD School Closures
More information on how Houston ISD school closures will impact our students. Ross Elementary students are now looking at a 40+ minute walk over a dangerous overpass or 4 active railroad tracks. @texasaft.org @aft.org @houstoncvpe.bsky.social
F. Mike Miles sent his “Destination Transformation” out-of-state visitors to visit Scarborough High School this morning, and this is what they saw at the entrance… wait for it… 😂
Last year’s “Destination Transformation” came with a price tag of $20,000. How much this year? @texasaft.org
Join us tomorrow (Wednesday) night for our “Teachers for Abbie” phonebank!

Tonight’s TES Training has been canceled. Please stay tuned for some of our other upcoming events where you can connect with your fellow colleagues.
The HISD Board of Managers is expected to consider the closures at a special February 26 meeting scheduled to be held at 4400 W. 18th St. at 5:00 PM.
If you would like to email the Board of Managers about how the closures will impact you, their email addresses are listed below:
HISD Board of Managers: Richard.Campo@houstonisd.org, Angela.Flowers@houstonisd.org, Paula.Mendoza@houstonisd.org, Michelle.Arnold@houstonisd.org, Edgar.Colon@houstonisd.org, Janette.GarzaLindner@houstonisd.org, Marty.Goossen@houstonisd.org, Lauren.Gore@houstonisd.org, Marcos.Rosales@houstonisd.org
➡️ Most closures will force students to traverse the High Injury Network to get to their new campus. The High Injury Network (HIN) represents 9% of Houston streets but accounts for 58% of traffic deaths and serious injuries, represented as bold blue lines.
Here are just a few ways our students will be impacted by the proposed Houston ISD school closures:
➡️ Every closure is in a qualified low income tract (green)
➡️ Many closures will force students to cross active rail lines

Celebrating Black History Month by honoring the history, culture, and contributions that shape our classrooms every day—and supporting educators in teaching it well. ✊🏾📚
Teachers, if you need lesson resources, we have Black History Month lesson plans on ShareMyLesson.com!
Mike Miles can’t maintain HVAC in schools and refuses to give state-funded teacher pay raises, but there is always room in the budget to give his overstaffed, overpaid cabinet more cash.
