Delineation of conservation units and assessments of pop. vulnerability are key to protection of intraspecific diversity. A new study shows why multiple vulnerability measures and accounting for high levels of population differentiation are key to Arctic charr conservation 🐟 @thefentagon.bsky.social

Excited to share our new paper on Pacific cod. We used GTseq to track movement of adults and juveniles. Adults from southern stocks move large distances into the Northern Bering sea to feed. Additionally, we showed that juveniles can move > 1000 km from where they were born. tinyurl.com/mryrz5j7

Nucleotide diversity is a poor predictor of short-term adaptive potential A capacity to adapt is essential for a population to avoid extinction in a changing world and is recognised as a global conservation priority. Adaptation requires additive (heritable) genetic variatio...

I'm excited to share that our preprint is now available on bioRxiv! Our study challenges the widespread use of molecular genetic diversity as a predictor adaptive potential, with important implications for how genetic data is used to inform conservation decisions.
