Sæmundr promised his soul if the Devil could get him across a body of water without getting him wet. The Devil turned into a seal to carry Sæemundr. Just as it seemed he would win, Sæmundr hit the seal with his Bible. The seal dropped him in the shallows and so lost the wager and Sæmundr's soul.
I love to use real-world locations in my books. This is a statue at the University of Reykjavik in Iceland. It depicts Sæmundr the Wise beating a seal with a Bible — the seal is really the Devil in disguise. #booksky #iceland #fantasynovel
