All good points I largely agree with.
For conventional silicon semiconductors, the switch from planar transistors to 3D has driven most of the density increase in the last decade or so and there's some potential there yet, also chip stacking. The limits there are cooling and manufacturing cost 🧵

While Moore's law is dead for silicon semiconductors, I wouldn't count out something like optronics or graphene reviving it.

However as per my other comment, that leap won't matter for the average user, and while it'll benefit datacenters, most of those do pointless marketing, finance and AI shit

And the tech industry is afraid to death of people finding out they don't really need to buy a computer unless the old one breaks in a way that can't be fixed.

Which is the reason for the two-pronged attack of forced obsolescence(Win11 hardware reqs, Android) and gimmicks to sell new stuff(RTX, AI)

I think computers are, like the steam engine, a solved technology. We're not going to see some sudden leap anymore. All we can do now is shave margins and tweak efficiencies.

Maybe not technologically (though we're definitely in diminishing returns territory), but for practical purposes, yes. Computers have been good enough for at least 90% of home and business uses for a decade or more, and the same applies to pocket computers aka phones and tablets.
