The UV pattern seems to only be revealed in adults. It reminds me of the robots from Breath of the Wild.
The paludarium designs favor water, where they spend most of their time (unlike many other fishing spiders that live more terrestrially). They are large, with females growing to around 3".
Nano paludarium project for Dolomedes triton (six spotted fishing spider) slings/juveniles.
I have six wild caught specimens that I want to breed and bring into the hobby. They are unique in that they spend most of their time in water and have an awesome pattern revealed by UV light.
Firefighters shouldn't have veto power over building codes and traffic safety. It's not evidence based, they just go in the vibes of old people in the profession.
Rehousing my Hysterocrates gigas / Cameroon Red Baboon Tarantula into a paludarium. This tarantula can dive and walk under water with a bubble suit around their body. Part of its diet will be fish added to the water area.
Rehousing was a challenge, it's a fossorial species and very shy.
It's always the people you most expect.
It's great! Makes it easier to maintain humidity and fully bioactive enclosures don't need hardly any maintenance.
I'm disappointed but not surprised to see that there isn't a marked crosswalk. SDOT has an absolute contempt for pedestrians in the Delridge neighborhood. I dream about this being a walkable neighborhood upzoned for more businesses.
At least they didn't add too much visual clutter with crosswalks.
Showing off some of the enclosures in my animal room. I just laser cut some new signs and redid the lighting.

Video tour! Feel free to ask any questions.
Just finished an enclosure build for my cape house snake, it's almost move-in ready!
Gorilla glue + pebble, driftwood, and cork walls and heavily planted. 36"x18"x18". 24" UVB, 2x 24" grow lamps, and a CHE. Zebra isopods.

I don't understand why Washington can't do better for Senators. So many Democrats I meet love them even though they embarrass us on the national stage constantly.
I'm so disappointed. The Democrats have actually managed to surprise me, I thought I had zero expectations. Do they literally not understand that writing this into law validates the MAGA position that the bill of rights is optional? I'm sure Stephen Miller finds this funny as hell.
I miss the West Seattle Library. I used to go all the time until they cut back the hours.
Are the NIMBYs radicalizing at an accelerating pace? I get this unsettling feeling that the run of the mill NIMBYs are transforming into MAGA-level politics. Local politics like zoning and bus lanes are starting to have the same level of vitriol as national ideological issues like abortion.
It's actually scary how hard they've violated journalism ethics in this article.
Why is Ferguson such a dick? I'm just constantly seeing new austerity measures combined with the most ignorant wasteful expenditures like extra highway lanes.
@westseattlebikeblg.bsky.social I feel like this gem of a chart from today's video is the key to winning the war on cars. Asking permission kills projects that would otherwise be super popular!
Just a bunch of awful trolls who dedicate their lives to fighting tooth and nail against real conservation work. It's not about trees or birds, just a bunch of bitter and hateful NIMBYs.
Just a bunch of concern trolls, they block real conservation work. It's not about the trees or the birds.
Those aren't even real conservation groups, just concern trolls.
I'm sure the people involved also block conservation work at Cheasty and the West Duwamish Greenbelt.
They would blow up city hall if something like Black Diamond Open Space was proposed.
It's not about birds and trees.
@hankgreen.bsky.social I'm really happy to see Life in Jars mentioned in the newsletter! An absolute gem of a YouTube creator that I've been following for years.
Downtown Bellevue didn't always suck so hard.
I lived in Bellevue about 12 years ago and used to walk to nice, inexpensive local restaurants from my apartment next to the Botanical Garden.
That's insane behavior.
I love to see this.
This is your sign to add shelf mushrooms to every terrarium build no matter what's living in it.
When I moved to Korea in 2011 they had digital wallet transit integration.
And that's not because Korea is technologically advanced, into the 2020s the country struggled with payment and banking digital integrations so bad it was basically a meme. And I mean bad bad, IE6 and ActiveX wrappers.
That's wild. I'm looking it up and there are no technical barriers and Apple doesn't add transaction fees.
Is this just an Apple thing? I've had more Orca card in Google Wallet for a long time, it even handles balances and reloading.
The really shameful thing is Washington being among the last to implement digital ID.
I pay literally the same amount for childcare as I do for mortgage and insurance. With one kid at one of the most inexpensive daycares in the city with short hours and lots of days off that put pressure on my work. It's so brutal. Universal childcare would transform the city in a big way.
