Still haven’t seen Wicked, but it does warm my heart to know that there is now an entire other generation that is going to attempt to read, and inevitably decide not to finish, the book it’s based on

I teach Algebra. I do not understand how that makes me qualified to answer things like "Does the youth figure out why he/she is afraid and do something to reduce the fear?" and 49 other similar questions about a student.

I just don't know how much longer I can do this job. I'm not sure my skin is thick enough anymore. My patienice is getting thinner and my frustration is growing and I don't know how to reverse those trends. Is this burn out? It feels like burn out.

Agreed, and it's the rare show I, my husband, and both teenagers all enjoy. I wish there were more like it.

Bought Wicked tickets for the "wrong" movie theater and now have to watch the whole thing upright like a heathen.

My account is still there, I pop in once a week at this point mostly just to see what I've forgotten to follow here so I can come back and add people/feeds. Moved over a couple days after the election.

I have one algebra class that works together wonderfully, and the majority are engaged and motivated, even the ones who really really struggle.

I have another that will. Not. Talk. Not to me, not to each other, not about math, not about not math, not on a boat, not with a goat.

To be honest there were a lot of things I didn't think to ask my husband before agreeing to marry him. So I got very lucky that, as someone who has a horrific sense of direction and cannot keep bamboo alive, he seems to have a compass in his head and keeps plants that do this:

Do you remember the most important hug you ever got?

Mine was in the moments right after my grandmother died. Her brother, a bear of a man, gave me the most protective comforting hug I have ever received.

He had a stroke today and all I can think about is that hug. Awaiting word on prognosis.

I started with h crochet and moved to knitting, and there is a sweater pattern that I started with that was easy enough for a switcher, but some are way more complicated. The color switching is not something I'd do on a first project though.

Today in class (9th, Algebra):
One of my whiteboard tables was squeaking, so I mentioned in front of the kids that I'd need to remember to bring in WD-40 tomorrow.
Three kids: "Who?"

Apparently WD-40 sounds like a rapper, and bringing a rapper to school to fix a squeaky table was plausible?

Sometimes we get overwhelmed and freeze. Sometimes we need someone to force us to get organized and make a plan. Sometimes that means we can't go see our girlfriend until the plan is in place.

And sometimes I realize I'm doing a pretty good job when my HS senior thanks me for intervening.

I have absolutely said this.

If your vehicle has a feature called "brake hold", you can't go through a car wash with it on. And you'll look like an idiot who can't put their car in neutral if you try.
