Gov. Hochul is giving her 2026 State of the State address. Here's some of the biggest issues included in the agenda she's laying out. With @jccoltin.bsky.social www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2026/...

Guy getting on the M104, to the bus driver: “Sir, is it not free? Because the mayor said…”
His friend: “fucking God, just GO.”
Just before midnight, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani rode into City Hall and was officially sworn in as NYC’s 112th mayor.

That was at the Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award gala in NYC on Dec. 9, as Lemon tells it.
Just a few days later, @danielsgoldman.dg4ny.co’s campaign had Pelosi as a validator defending the #NY10 incumbent from @bradlander.bsky.social.
Brad Lander approached Nancy Pelosi at a gala and told her he was running for Congress. “I am a Dan Goldman Democrat,” she responded. “Democrats don’t run against Democrats.”
“Was I too much of a b—?” she asked after.
@donlemonofficial.bsky.social tells the story:
New York City is seeking to tighten control over who can get press credentials, extend its ability to revoke existing press cards, and create a new "premier" card for journalists with 20+ years of experience rules.cityofnewyork.us/rule/mome-pr...
I’m planning to start at City & State on Dec. 22.
Here’s the announcement:

I’ve loved my time at POLITICO on the all-star New York team. There are NO better colleagues than my co-authors Emily Ngo and Nick Reisman.
I’ll be taking a break to honeymoon with Caitlin (2025’s been a big year!), then back for one final week of Playbook before joining C&S.
Some professional news: I’m coming back to @cityandstateny.bsky.social as editor-in-chief.
I was a fan of C&S when I was a college student emailing to ask for an internship, and I’m still a fan today. Excited to take the helm heading into such a crucial and interesting time in NY politics.
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani hasn’t endorsed fellow democratic socialist and NYC Council Member Chi Ossé in his bid to unseat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
Our @jccoltin.bsky.social breaks down why Mamdani is in a tough spot.

Per @jccoltin.bsky.social, Mamdani on discouraging Chi Ossé from primarying Jeffries:
Appreciates his work for tenants, but “I believe that there are many ways right here in New York City to both deliver on an affordability agenda and take on the authoritarian administration in the White House.”
i regret to say that i have to support this ugly tie

Virulent anti-Mamdani push poll combines questions about his actual positions (housing affordability, millionaire tax) with Islamophobic questions implying that he supports "making halal mandatory in all city restaurants" and investigating "Israel's role in 9/11" (via @jccoltin.bsky.social)
After the City Council won the lawsuit blocking Mayor Eric Adams' efforts to let ICE on Rikers, Cabán and the council are hoping to add to sanctuary city laws and speficially block ICE from all DOC facilities.
NEW: Brian Romero, a DSA member who worked as chief of staff to Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas, is running for González-Rojas' Assembly seat, which she'll be vacating to run for state Senate.
Romero is applying for DSA's endorsement in the race, though he might not get it.
"I don’t fucking care if you agree with him or not, you don’t say that shit!" he said. "Don’t use that fucking language! You don’t fucking call someone a terrorist! You don’t know what the fuck you’re saying! So grow the fuck up! ... Zohran keep doing your fucking thing, man!”
Man in the black and white flag mask biked in circles around the Zohran Mamdani presser in Jackson Heights this morning calling the mayoral candidate “a terrorist.” After a minute or two of that, the muscular man screamed at him to get out of here with his bigoted shit.
Cash on hand:
Mamdani: $5,062,663
Cuomo: $1,382,505
Sliwa: $2,272,246
Next public funds payment scheduled 10/9. Another chance on 10/30.
Filings 8/19-9/29:
Mamdani: Raised $431,567 (stopped 9/5); Spent $1,347,344; 6,543 contributors; $63 avg.; 51% NYC
Cuomo: Raised $939,857; Spent $1,513,042; 2,754 contributors, $325 avg.; 75% NYC
Sliwa: Raised $429,472; Spent $1,542,993; 4,240 contributors, $100 avg.; 60% NYC
But Mamdani isn’t the only one who’s changed. The movement has all but ended, and there’s more of a consensus, even on the council’s left flank, on building the new jails as part of closing Rikers Island.
Conditions on Rikers Island are horrible for detainees and correction officers. Managing and then closing Rikers Island would be one of the thorniest issues for Mamdani to work through if elected mayor, but it’s one that hasn’t gotten much attention.
As an activist in 2019, Mamdani shamed the pols who voted to build the borough-based jails. Now on the cusp of being mayor, he’s shed his revolutionary No New Jails pose for a stance more akin to a traditional liberal reformer.

"The major players behind an ill-fated deal to make Mayor Eric Adams the Trump administration’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia have financial ties to a developer trying to win approval for a New York City casino."
What a lede.

It's interesting that both Mamdani's supporters (www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...) and his opponents (nypost.com/2025/09/26/u...) are trying to persuade homeowners by highlighting his support for Local Law 97, which requires larger buildings to reduce their emissions.
