09.04.2025 18:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Suddenly, the memory surges back to the bar last night. Alone, yet surrounded by strangers, idly sipping at your third or fourth beer that was just tolerable enough. You watched Family Feud on mute, playing in reverse as you tried to deduce what the question was. What a weirdo.

A large field of tall grass, with a few trees standing alone and the forest edge far in the background.
A photo of a pond, surrounded by woods, in the late afternoon sun. A small fishing stand overlooks the pond on the far side, and the photo is taken from a small bridge with sturdy metal railing.
A photo of the same pond, from a different angle on the bank with tall grass and colorful wildflowers in the foreground and the fishing stand on the opposite bank.
Fox Ridge State Park, Illinois, 2019.
Once inhabited by early Piankashaw tribes, the area was settled by Europeans on the banks of the Embarras river, a major trade line before the railroad.
In the late 1930s, Illinois acquired the land and dedicated it as a state park, creating a lake with a dam.
A single tree stands between a large field of grass and a plowed crop field. In the foreground is a rustic wooden fence, running parallel to the country road extending into the distance.
A large tree, split down the middle by some great force like a lightning strike. The tree not only remains standing, but continues to thrive in the woods.
A cloudy sunset casts its glow over the treeline. The photo is taken from a field of wild grass, which dominates most of the image.
The "Million Dollar Courthouse" of Carlinville, Illinois. 181 feet long and rising to 191 feet, the limestone structure features 2 grand staircases leading into Corinthian porticos with 4 great pillars each.
Macoupin County, Illinois, summer of 2019.
Macoupin County is best known for its location on Route 66. The seat of government, the Carlinville Courthouse, has its own history as well: opened in 1870, the $1.3m (over $23m today) building was the largest courthouse in the country at the time.
Arizona sunset, with dry grass and a single tree in the foreground giving way to the sun sitting just below the mountains in the background
