An emerald-green moth with scalloped, brown-edged wings rests on a white surface surrounded by green leaves. Text reads: "For 147 years, people thought this moth was extinct."

For 147 years, people thought this moth was extinct. Community scientists on iNaturalist changed that.

Side view of a moth with brown forewings that have a broad, looping vibrant green pattern across them

Cosmodes elegans - Green-blotched Moth

These lovely moths are relatively frequent visitors to our Perth Hills garden but it’s lovely to see them every time!

These moths are native to Australia and can be seen in most areas except the NT.

Top view of a large moth whose wings are around 5cm across. The wings have a striking pattern of stripes in brown and cream, two eye spots, and wing veins in blue.

Donuca orbigera

This stunning moth was an exciting new visitor to our Perth Hills moth light last night.

These are usually seen in the far north in WA, so this guy is ~2,000km off course! Wondering if the recent cyclone might be responsible.
