Apologies to all my friends on Substack. I'd gritted my teeth and supported you because I love your work. But Substack's partnership with Polymarket is the last straw for me.
Anyway, pay your manga translators (and everybody else involved) a living wage and give them royalties, for fuck's sake. You're bigger than ever and can afford rates many times bigger than the 90s on the bestsellers topping the fucking NYT charts. Embarrassing you refuse to take care of your own.
Every professional translator I know has the same position on this and can easily explain the reasons for it when asked. The fact that executives don't even bother to ask and force translators to work on AI/MTL slop regardless makes it clear where their priorities lie: money trumps quality.
LRT: quality translators are also *localizers* which is so so important to to help make details make sense in the language they're being translated into.
As far as I see it English manga publishers CANNOT use AI translation, actual human translation & editing is the only competitive edge they have over fan scanlations what are something like 80% MTL and terrible these days. They are also free- you compete with bad but free with a quality product.
This has been such a a amazing show so far!!! I wholeheartedly agree that this one needs to be watched!!! (And diverse female faces!!!)

Mushishi is so good! I rewatched s1 a few weeks ago and need to watch s2. Its so cozy but also unsettling. I love it.
Like if there was not a work deadline I would call out, but its not bad enough yet that I feel like dealing with that (sups would grant it but like, I dont want to ruin good faith for this that rarely happens)
