I guess you can add Renault to this story: had their copy of the MiEV and the successful Leaf.
But being a 1st mover often isn't a winning recipe (see Google vs Yahoo, iPhone vs BB/Nokia, etc)

In fairness, as you also made transparent, they outperformed their ex-parent Pfizer. So I'd give them some slack that they first have to find their way / own DNA. Speaking of DNA, pet pharma is much less regulated so they might start frontrunning human medicine and earn from passed on IP as well

Plans unveiled for south Dublin winter sports arena to host State’s first ice hockey franchise Proposed €190m venue planned for Cherrywood, Dublin, will enable team compete in UK Elite Ice Hockey League

Love the idea of watching some ice hockey. But where in Ireland do those future players train? I haven't come across any permanent rinks near Dublin ...

I had an Alberta oil exec telling me five years ago how their industry is suffering because of Trudeau, and the US oil doing great since Trump. That fracking and the related expansion started with Obama was a detail he ignored, joint up with the high unit costs of oil sands ... Bloody facts!

The Irish Times view on the rising cost of Metrolink: the unacceptable price of delay We have been looking at the illustrations of what a metro for Dublin might look like for many years, but have still to see a shovel in the ground

€23b for the Dublin Metrolink? Double the estimate from 2021? More than 3 tunnels through the Alps by the Swiss (NEAT, including the longest in the world)?

And all the Irish Times asks for is more transparency? Maybe this friendliness is why it's at €23b ...

This could be one of those little changes to an existing technology that will massively accelerate the deployment. Very exciting!

You Don't Need an Electrician to Install This Smart Home Battery The former Tesla engineers who founded Pila Energy say their battery can make it easier and more affordable for consumers to weather power outages.

Interesting: small home batteries that you can plug into any wall outlet & tuck away just about anywhere. If you plug in multiples, they automatically form a mesh network.

This is the battery equivalent of "balcony solar."

Generally speaking populism strives by asking 'valid' questions, without going into solutions that deal with the actual complexity.
Add to this the dislike in the US for 'shades of gray' and you get simple black/white answers to complex questions.

Total, and on smaller scale Eni, show that there is a middle ground that is possible.
The challenge at BP was claiming 15% ROACE in RE when nobody knows how. The proper argument would be: less risk, less capital return.
But that takes us to the investors who simply don't want it ...

Move under way to cut punishing 41pc exit tax on exchange-traded funds Work is under way to ease the punitive tax treatment of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and life-wrapped funds, an investment product sold by life assurance companies, in time for the Government’s first ...

This is so much overdue that the only surprising thing is that it hasn't been done yet!

Why would you hurt your own asset management industry? And push savers to an allocation of real estate or cash, instead of decent diversification?

Best use of a system that wasn't integrated into a holistic air defense anyways.
Ireland will need to review systems beyond the Manpads they have, and of course, the RAF air cover.

I'm highly inclined on switching to proton drive. The only thing that keeps me from doing it, is the fear of lacking ease of integration and manual sync needs. Is that justified or can it easily be done (Android platform)?

putin is a war criminal. i have no problem with the us president (or macron or scholz) talking with him. but under no
circumstances should his crimes be normalized or white washed.

what’s happening right now is a stain on the united states and its role in the world.

Listen to super Mario!

It's time for Europe to emancipate itself and focus on what it controls: the internal market!

Swiss Trade Union warns EU deal could threaten wages The Swiss Trade Union Federation warns that the new bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the EU could threaten wage protection and public services.

Guess what will threaten your wages? If a trading and innovation nation struggles to sell abroad easily and hire good people ... The cashier only earns 4k because of the wages in the high productivity sector - none of which are domestic.

It's actually a mystery how the loss of business narrative is still used!

Fiat currency clearly made trade more efficient versus barter and the energy need is quite low.
The point of Hauke is on usability and energy need. So sticking to this criteria, Bitcoin simply does not score well.

That's the problem isn't it? Either it's digital gold which is useful for investing/trading or it's a practical payment solution, which it isn't. Thus a lot of energy is used for wealth allocation but not creation.

Agree fully on the feasibility. My point was solely on negotiations.
And for historical context: at the beginning of Merkel's reign, Russia was about 30% of imports and the system was designed to be flexible. By 2020 it was 55% without flexibility.
So whatever we do: have optionality inbuilt

I hear you, but it's a key negotiation chip in any peace deal, so must be used.
More crucial is to continue to reduce the dependency on (Russian) gas and oil. And you'd hope that the past few years serve as a sufficient warning to do so ...

You are pointing to the hard truth: if the UK wants the poor regions to develop, they must receive more authority - chiefly for taxes. Let Wales attract money from the South-East and create some internal competition and innovation! But letting loose will feel uncomfortable...
