FIVE MORE YEARS OF FIRE EMBLEM DISCOURSE

Like I think I could definitely expand on a 3 way relation with Dimitri and food. EX: Dimitri, Felix and Food or Dimitri, Dedeu, and Food or a general Dimitri, Companionship, and Food.

It's rambly and I still think i could go further but I can trouble verbalizing or writing in this case. But this is a good overview I feel

Dimitri’s relationship with food was probably always a bit unusual as a royal he is most likely aware of food poisoned deaths, so even before his loss of taste, Dimitri is started his relationship with a sense of danger. This danger is only exacerbated by his Uncle Rufus. Rufus has tried to kill Dimitri twice explicitly with Duscur and the Western Rebellion and hinted at more in Warriors with Dedue “Assassination attempts continued increasingly in the palace afterwards as well,” which it can be assumed food being a possible attempt. Again further giving food a negative connotation to Dimitri. Before I get to specifics with Academy, Warriors, and Houses. Dimitri’s loss of taste is super important not his relationship wth food as his patterns mirror the irl condition, Ageusia. Ageusia is a condition that results in the loss of taste (tho for it to be 1 to 1 Dimitri would still be able to “taste” spice as more of a feeling but not important) with it being able to develop after a traumatic event. And with it you can have some symptoms such as weight loss, malnutrition, and depression. Though it can treated with mix results, permanent impairment, partial or full recovery. Again something else that further harms his relationship to food. As the one of foods most identifying qualities, is its taste. You want something sweet? Get dessert! You want sour? Lemon! Without that Dimitri has to look to the next thing you think with food companionship, family dinner, celebrations, etc. However family dinners aren’t much for Dimitri to gravitate too see Rufus and his assassination attempts. Which leaves food with its most basic use, to keep the body functioning and living. And with that time for the Dimitri’s Academy, Warriors, and Houses.

Academy Dimitri: To start with his favorite dishes “Ah, this takes me back... I used to love this when I was a child.” Despite the “favorite” it no longer is see the pass tense “used to” Ageusia again affecting his relationship. In his Dining Hall supports Dedue and Felix make mention of his diet. And on his own makes mention of eating to restore his strength. Which, there, that is what Dimitri’s relationship to food is at this stage. It’s not for enjoyment, it’s not for companionship; it’s for strength. “I will eat well and restore my strength” Warriors Dimitri: This Dimitri has a better relationship in so far as quantity as although slight, Warriors Dimitri is bigger than Houses. So he is in comparison he is getting more food intake. Moving on again we see that Dimitri can’t rely on taste or companionship as in the mess hall Dimitri mentions his past with favorite dishes and with Dedue mentions taking his meals in silence alone. That being said we also see the continuation of Dimitri restricting his eating with Rodrigue mentions he should eat more. From this it can be assumed Dimitri’s food relationship is most likely scheduled and he eats what’s presented not going for seconds. Adding to the fact we are in war there is more restricting.

Houses Dimitri (Focus on AM not so much the other routes): In Houses Dimitri probably has the most complex relationship with food. For 5 years Dimitri lives as a vagabond having “died” and having gather his own food. In this route we get the quote of “rat hunting” we can assume Dimitri’s diet was,,, probably lacking in getting proper nutritions and amount of his body intake. Yes the rat hunting is in reference to enemies but also I don’t doubt Dimitri was actually rat hunting if it got bad enough. We also know with Gustave, Dimitri’s manners fell through again going back to his conditions as a vagabond during the 5 years. Something else with this Dimitri is that his only goal is to kill Edelgard so it’s most likely he is only taking his minimal needs as his desire to end Edelgard tends to override anything else even his safety. Ironically, it seems Houses Dimitri goes against his Academy self of eating food to restore strength.” If anything this is what Dimitri needs more than anything. Dimitri, Future, and Food. Ok, now we get to the big one, Dimitri’s future relationship with food. Dimitri’s want to eat has been for strength. This connects to his idea of him only being good for war. “I have always been a man who is good for nothing but war.” But once war is done and it will be done what comes next? What is to gain from eating? Sure he can continue to eat for strength but for more at least, it’s not a good stepping stone as Dimitri will give food another negative connotation. War. However I think the ending to Dimitri’s relationship with food Warriors and Houses is for him to come to the basic idea of food that I mentioned before. Keeping the body functioning and living. To eat is to live.

And a bonus(?): IDK, Dimitri is suicidal and this “to eat is to live” would be Dimitri directly competing with those thoughts. As by eating he is living yet another day despite those thoughts. However, Dimitri’s suicidal tendencies are more passive than active but IDK, something there? Maybe?

TLDR: Dimitri's relationship with food was always gonna be complicated but made worse by Rufus. In Academy, Warriors, and Houses, Dimitir has issues with food intake and purpose of eating eventually landing on strength. In the future he should shift to a desire to keep living.

God I could talk forever about Dimitri and his relationship with food. I have so many thoughts, Academy, Hopes, and especially Houses, but I never have an idea of how to go about them

On older designs as well I do think as Sylvain gets older his metabolism slows and he ends up with a body more like his dad

What's everyone's opinion on who is going bald with age in FE3H? Trying to think of this and literally only Ferdinand and Hubert come to mind. But there has to be more 2/3 men go bald/lose hair

Also I feel super specific with my Dimitri eye headcanons, my prime example is canon Dimitri can NOT wear an eye prosthetic for his mental health. He'd stare at a mirror and not move. But a modern au Dimitri can wear a prosthetic with no issue

I don't think it happens a lot but every now and then bad habits prop up. Or when he has to meant strangers. Or sometimes it's just not an eyepatch day

Thinking about Dimitri waking up having to decided if he wants to wear an eyepatch (he doesn't) or wants to be perceived by not wearing one (he doesn't)? Hmmm,,, Dimitri having to still face being selfish with his own comfort or selfless by putting others above him
