The Vinaver or Winchester Malorys are both good; there’s an Oxford UP version or you should be able to access via the TEAMS medieval texts website. Steinbeck also had a wonderful version out in the 70s!

A bunch of states are starting initiatives to help with early reading, and yet somehow this doesn’t seem to involve increasing funding for libraries which is like saying you want to increase honey production without supporting bees.

No pics bc sometimes we just must watch beauty, but my dog just lost her mind and jumped on a coffee table, barking frantically, as two yearling does just casually strolled down my suburban street. What restorative joy Nature grants us sometimes when we least deserve it!

This poor man and his family were failed by so many systems. I’m so saddened that this was his fate in a city I love that claims to be “The City of Good Neighbors.”

This morning’s new snow is ridiculous, uncalled for, and if I may say so, personally offensive.

Rose Freedman, Last Survivor of Triangle Fire, Dies at 107

You owe it to yourself to read the 2001 obituary (republished today) for Rose Freedman, the last survivor of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. An incredible woman. (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2026/02/17/n...

“Is there a technology the left is excited about?”

Yeah man, it’s called anything that can be useful and make my bills go down instead of a thing that can’t do anything without my help and doubles my electricity bill

Lol at the power company getting ahead of big bills by reminding everyone it was cold outside.

Or, and hear me out, extremely wealthy people could pay more taxes. They’d still be extremely wealthy and the rest of wouldn’t have to work ourselves into the grave. Just a thought.

Oh dear. The unspoken/unwritten part is that the slim attractive woman must also be a caretaker.

A vintage black-and-white portrait of pioneering American microbiologist Alice Catherine Evans (1881–1975), seated elegantly in a dark satin blouse with a strand of pearls around her neck. She gazes directly at the camera with a composed, intelligent expression, one hand resting lightly on a table edge, wearing a pleated skirt in this classic early 20th-century studio photograph. Evans made groundbreaking contributions to public health by proving that the bacterium Brucella abortus (which causes brucellosis, also known as undulant fever) could be transmitted from infected cattle to humans through unpasteurized milk, leading to widespread milk pasteurization laws in the 1930s that saved countless lives. She was also the first woman elected president of the Society of American Bacteriologists (now ASM).#WomenInScience #Microbiology #AliceCatherineEvans #PublicHealth #Pasteurization #WomenInSTEM

Dear Adobe,

No, I don't need the AI to summarize. No, I don't need the AI to help me search. No, I don't need the AI to help me resize the margins. No, I don't need the AI to do anything.

What I need is to hit the print icon without your product crashing from all of the AI popups.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

FAQ: The Status of the Shits Women Have Left to Give Q: I was wondering: how much of a shit do women give about what conservative old white dudes say about them? A: Thanks for contacting us. We have c...

"We have checked our inventory thoroughly, and we no longer have any shits left to give. We only had a small amount of shits left at the end of last year, and now we’ve found that the most recent news cycles have completely emptied us out."

Poem of the Day:
To the States

To the States or any one of them, or any city of the States, Resist
much, obey little,
Once unquestioning obedience, once fully enslaved,
Once fully enslaved, no nation, state, city of this earth, ever
afterward resumes its liberty.
—Walt Whitman—

Was watching LOTR: Fellowship on NYE and it suddenly occurred to me there’s a musical motif/tribute to It Came From Beneath the Sea (a giant squid movie from 1953!) when Frodo is taken at the entrance to the mines.

This is what my brain is like, all of the time. Welcome, friend! #TCMParty
