Just returned from working on a new documentary in Mexico.

I feel like this is going to end up being one of the wildest projects I've worked on.

The film I directed in Montana was so remote we couldn’t drive in. It took a two hour horseback ride to reach it.

A first for me and my DP Tom (pictured here, rocking a gas-station cowboy hat).

Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.

Just got back from filming a project in the Montana wilderness over the span of a week.

We ate the fish we caught, bathed in rivers, and got around on the horses.

I love the mountains.

Different fields, different moods.

This year and last, I had the surreal honor of filming for Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom (now Protecting the Wild)—one of TV’s longest-running nature shows.

I wanted to ask him, “How do you get to do this?” But I stayed silent. Out of respect—or maybe because I was holding a humble 1DX II with a 70–200, and he looked like he filmed for the BBC.

On the roof sat a guy who, in my eyes, was the coolest human alive. Quiet confidence. Cigarette in hand. A camera rig that probably cost more than his truck. He waited for the cheetah to stir.

In 2017, early in my career, I was sent to Tanzania to shoot a short adventure film in the Serengeti. While crossing the plains, my guide spotted a cheetah and parked beside a rugged vehicle with a sign: “FILMING – DO NOT FOLLOW.”
