"You thought I was bringing you flowers?"
planning my post-RotE strategy because I just know I'll feel sick af so I figured I’d read some nonfiction and start an AssApprentice reread to help me cope™️
More prosaically: you're poor af and sad af and you’ll burn just like those who are burning now so why the fuck are you licking boots the fuck the fuck the fuck
"Because that's how things go" hardens into a permanent state of conflict they never even consider questioning, all in the name of a supposedly ""universal"" well-being that more often than not proves to be not only regional but deeply individual, but somehow still deemed right and desirable
It is easier and more logical to imagine a dominant system that annihilates all others while simultaneously claiming to preserve its own goodness.
The paradox of those who reject "utopia" by clinging to a so-called balance between humanism and pragmatism lies in the belief that The Right Order can conquer without crushing something under its boot.
We really need to take the time to reflect on utopias but seriously. Deeply distressing that even in our most unbridled fantasies we're unable to imagine freedom from conflict and domination
any cat born after the dawn of time can't cook. all they know is meow meow, chase the red dot, take naps, eat churu and lie
Fuck it. I'm crying already.
My two cents: we are not made to stand on perpetual confutation and destruction and when the ground beneath your feet gives way, you rebuild a new one (one that is actually solid. Or sort of)
received direct confirmation of this from one of the most educated people I know. It wasn’t new but it was still astonishing to hear someone dear to me say “I don’t want to call what I know into question, because afterward I wouldn’t know what to hold on to and that’s terrifying”. It is! It is!
If you nursed any doubts about the extent of my pettiness know I'm discussing a textbook I had to study for an exam I took in *July* and which I had already obliquely referenced months ago as "a book that should have been a Tumblr post"
We lack the extra-legal instruments necessary to question these paradigms. The extra-legal is gestured at, but never meaningfully examined. And as a result everything ends up presenting itself as """neutral"""
What I have come to suspect about the author/myself/ and about law students more broadly (at least in Italy) is that having been provided with no analytical tools beyond the law itself we are effectively incapable of engaging in genuinely deep critique.
yet starting from this half-true premise the book never goes on to interrogate the structures of state theory itself. Paradigms are taken for granted (ex.rule of law)
that damn State Theory textbook postulates that constitutional law + scholars alone are required to grapple with a politically charged framework - false given that constitutional law reverberates throughout the entire legal system (regulation of contract, property etc)

Oh yeah youre Palestinian tell me you dont hate hindutvas iranian diaspora jews and white Christians prove it prove youre human enough for me only to do nothing because I am stupid and an islamophobe orientalist
The shit you people ask of Palestinians is some of the most heinous, undignifying things I have ever seen in my entire life, I literally can not imagine seeing children with their heads blown open while being demanded to explain you dont hate xyz people
I am not referring to the presence or absence of nuance as the legendarium is rich in it but rather to differing conceptions of power: how power is structured, how it is justified, and how these mechanisms ultimately shape distinct worlds through their application
No extensive experience with fantasy but if I were to identify a difference between Tolkien and RH I'd say that while the former's worldbuilding presents itself as an internally "indisputable" structure, the latter constructs a world that persistently interrogates both itself + its underlying logic
everything is fine really.
(actually. my summary is reductive and it belittles the story’s cruel beauty and I am not fine.)
(Fool’s Assassin. For shame.................)
RotE experience: from a tetralogy about dragons and their keepers (rich in political/cultural dilemmas yet. whimsical) to a subsequent trilogy steeped in layered solitudes, delving into the persistence of abusive cycles + the price one is expected to endure in order to belong to a family or a state

wine was good tho. But that's not me. I'm better than this. I haven't drunk more than a glass of wine in. Months (2). A real shame for my ancestors honestly
proof that I'm in the darkest depths of my thesis: barely 3 glasses of wine made me tipsy, borderline drunk - which means I can't even benefit from that very strange fluency that takes over when I'm tipsy and makes me suddenly burst into fanfic and write in solid English
