"'We sometimes call Canada an honorary Nordic' country, said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre..."
Aww, thanks! I mean, we *do* share a border with Denmark.

I haven't gamified my courses as much as I would like, but I remain intrigued by the idea!
"The Recall Tara Armstrong campaign says the riding is without 'consistent representation or a coherent political voice' because Armstrong has introduced 'bill after bill' that have nothing to do with the issues she campaigned on..."
Good.

"Political energy spent on something that, whatever its leaders say, can’t actually happen, is energy wasted."
I don't agree with the Hub on much, but they're speaking good sense here.

I told my parents about this, and my Mom's response was 'Really? And this was here?' Never think we're immune.
It comforts me not at all that these are generally the same people who scream about meritocracy.
It would be nice if people remembered this piece of wisdom from the greatest economics tweet in history (and the one I am most insanely jealous of not having written, especially because it was a reply to me).
...and coming up with the most ridiculous solutions for your problems.
Quick little 3 colour risograph I printed today - I will be hiding these around a park in Toronto tomorrow for Art & Found Day!
One can understand why the Trump administration likes these guys so much.
Conservative MP for Powell River–North Island, Aaron Gunn, is, uh, well he’s being trolled a bit for his condemnation of land acknowledgements yesterday. Message from K’omoks, Klahoose, Homalco & Tla’amin Nations: “Chillax, bud.” #bcpoli
🎉Excited to share our forthcoming paper in POQ! And don’t worry—it’s not all about our mums 😉. With @lenkahrbkova.bsky.social and @matejjung.bsky.social, we ask: did younger generations in post-communist Europe develop more conventional left–right belief systems?
Tl;dr: not really. (🧵)
"Sloppelganger" is one for the ages
I would normally be tempted, but we have Pirate Paks at home.
"Based on the $20.5 billion Canadian tourists spent in the U.S. in 2024, last year’s 22% decline in visitation indicates an economic hit of roughly $4.5 billion."
I reached out to apologize to the organizer of my favourite US conference. He had apparently been inundated with similar emails.

Vocal and sustained outrage works
I recall this narrative from my days working with an international org. American leadership often treated the idea that the Canadian affiliate was an independent entity that could make it own decisions as a cute joke. Trump is the manifestation of that attitude writ large. It didn't start with him.
Trump just called PM Carney the “future Governor of Canada” again. Not a slip. Not a joke.
A pattern and it infuriates me!
The 51st state rhetoric isn’t going away. 🇨🇦

This is not what the article is about, but it reminded me that I used to find Grammarly helpful. Now, in addition to being ethically questionable, it's become annoying.
Political polarization is indeed less severe in Canada. Although I've seen research suggest that people believe that Canadians who share their party affiliation are more 'polarized' than they are. It also seems to me that 'centrist' is a much less damaging label here.

Oh, mood - I still remember getting stuck over on the Island the year of the big snow ('96, I think?). I was a kid, so I thought it was awesome. The adults... didn't agree.
Not me calling my partner at work to suggest he do the rest of his shift from home.
"A Canadian sergeant convicted of assaulting his former spouse three times has been handed a conditional discharge..."
One wonders whether the analysis would have been different had he repeatedly attacked, say, police officers rather than his then-wife.
