As a crusty Heisei otaku, I appreciate the ending's Reiwa take on classic sekai-kei plots. Iroha's love for Kaguya spurs her to achieve great things and get the girl. It refuses to admit defeat, to say that this is just the way things are. Maybe happy endings are what we need right now.

After having several days to reflect on it, I have to revise my opinion on Chou Kaguya-hime upward. I think it's the best anime I've seen in years. Every part of it is spectacularly well-realized and fits together with the rest perfectly.

if you're into vtubers, vocaloid, utaite, or/and vrchat, you definitely need to watch Cosmic Kaguya Hime.

it's a celebration of how the internet democratized creative spaces. i'm shocked how i'm totally okay with the optimism because it actually gets why people are so passionate on the web.

watched chou kaguya-hime generational yuri tbh, and just a great anime movie in general i have a few complaints (iroha's relationship with her family could have been more nuanced, the timey-wimey stuff in the last act is a little convoluted), but the central love story between iroha and kaguya is wonderful, brought to life by a vibrant script and even more vibrant sakuga. the entire movie is a joy to look at, and the animation succeeds at selling both the quiet moments and blockbuster action/performance spectacle a movie celebrating internet culture with a bunch of vocaloid songs could have easily ended up vapid, and maybe it would have if it had come out ten years ago, but it feels very 2026 in a good way. the VR culture depicted is oddly believable in its hyper-stylization, and frankly i don't think you could sell the yurihime-esque relationship at the core of the story to audiences/producers until pretty recently. i came away very satisfied, and the few complaints i did have melted away (heh) while listening to the covers of ray (bump of chicken) and melt (yes that one) used for the end credits. i actually had to look up the lyrics of ray to see if they were changed for the movie, because they fit so perfectly, but nope, they just happened to license the absolute most fitting song. also amphibian (yes that one) is credited with プロット監修, not a name i expected to see

my power didn't go out after all (or at least not yet), so I watched Chou Kaguya-hime

I'm a fan of Sakurai's Steampunk games in general, but I think many people would call this one the "classic" in the series. Grateful I got the chance to work on it!

For the GHOSTs (store.steampowered.com/app/2487390/...) is a masterpiece visual novel about communication with fictional characters who are aware they are in a visual novel programmed in C++.

i resonate with how the characters explore their solipsism and whether this game means anything at all.

why did they have to have a narrator though... one of the strengths of the series is how light on exposition it is...

the Omae Gotoki anime is not very good, but as a fan of the source material I can derive some enjoyment from it
