Vale the great, great Alf Clausen. So much joy and light in your music. Such effortless mastery and such exquisite lightness of touch.
I’ll be listening to “Swing Can Really Hang You Up The Most” on a loop in your honour. You’ll always be a hero to me
It’s from Saint-Saëns’ film score for the film “The Assassination of the Duke of Guise”
It’s not well-known music, but it should be.
Recording Saint-Saëns in Melbourne today

04.02.2025 11:19 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Hi Balázs - the quality of the instrument is a major factor. Also the condition that it’s in. You can have a good instrument that’s badly set up, so its quality is masked - a good violin repairer/maker could help, and it might just be as simple as shifting the sound post. Good, new strings help too.
04.02.2025 10:35 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0You’ve probably seen these before, but this is an outstanding metal practice mute
The contact surface with the bridge is lined with cork, and it clips firmly on so it won’t fall off and scratch anything. Great sound too

Haven’t seen that practice mute before - might get one for the sake of science, but the practice mute from WMute is the winner for me so far - it doesn’t obstruct the bow like the chunky mutes often do
