The man arrested on suspicion of attempted extortion is a New Zealand man (56), who calls himself a chef and lives in New Zealand. According to police, on the 18th of this month at around 10 p.m., the suspect is accused of sending a message to a teenage Japanese woman living in the prefecture whom he met on social media, saying, "If you ignore my messages, I will come to your home address. Contact me within two days, I'm serious," in an attempt to force a reply.

The incident came to light on the 19th of this month when the woman who received the message contacted the police. After the police investigated, they received information that the man was planning to enter Japan, and on the 25th, police officers who were waiting for him at Komatsu Airport arrested him. The man has admitted to the charges, saying he is "sure," and police are currently investigating his motive.
