For everyone on Letterboxd dragging The Three Sisters, good lord, what did this cheeky 14 minute animated short do to hurt you?
I wasn’t expecting to be sitting in The Music Box bawling my eyes out watching an animated short, but here we are
Saw two nuns in the back of a driverless Waymo and for a second it felt like god was driving them
Invasion of the Amateurs is underway Chicago, be safe!
Seems less about defending opera and ballet, more about the powerful rush from getting oneself into a red hot state of indignation at Timothée Chalamet.
Clammy Sammy spouting nonsense again.
Being a fan of the outlaw couple on the run genre, and of camp, The Bride! was sort of a must-see for me, and with that in mind, I wish it was stronger.
Interesting #LastFourWatched this week. Watching Mr Nobody Against Putin back to back with Battleship Potemkin gave an interesting comparison and contrast. Sirāt was a road trip movie, so minimal in character development, I’m still thinking through it…. The Bride! Certainly striking/undeniably messy
It’s not YOU’RE - the viewer’s - job either. It isn’t really a job, so how did Hollywood studios get it in their head that they had to listen to surveys from the least attentive viewers and adjust storytelling accordingly?
It seems almost radical now to distribute a film in an environment where film consumers are used to studios catering to audience reaction like Coca Cola beta testing a new soft drink flavor and gauging reaction, and being like, no, spelling out for you every element of the story isn’t our job.
Phil Hoad wrote about “the algorithm movie” for The Guardian awhile back, and in that time I’ve noticed the films I’m drawn to now are not Hollywood made, maybe not foreign language films, but that’s often the case. It’s not a direct reaction to algo films, but it’s not completely unrelated either
I saw Sirāt last night. This is a movie that will make a certain subset of movie goers lather with rage, and I’m here for it!
*BOOP*
If this ever becomes a real game, someone message me

I didn’t win today’s Framed.wtf - didn’t see it. But once again, I spotted the philosophers. Spot the Philosopher in the Movie is a game I’m pretty good at.

Didn’t know who this was, seems like he might be a fixture in the UK. Anyway I looked him up, and now I’m like, don’t anybody speak badly about my new hero.

Oh HAIL no
OTTH (On the third hand) Social Media as we know it sucks hard, and has for a long time. We deserve forums that allow communities to thrive without an algo you need to game. If we can’t have that, I don’t cur, let it burn.
The Music Box has been listed at #9 on TimeOut's "100 Greatest Cinemas In The World Right Now!"
Honored by the recognition, and proud to be in such good company!

There’s a park ranger who gives a speech about the punkahs in the plantation homes, and the child slaves, who were called punkah wallas - and I can’t say why without giving too much away, but it was electrifying
His name is Behemoth. #MasterAndMargarita
Whaaaa??? You’re in for a treat!
Michel Gondry toyed with making a film adaptation of Ubik, and decided, probably correctly, that it can’t be done. That’s probably correct and I’m probably better off in a world that doesn’t have an adaptation that just disappoints me, but I’m still a bit sad to think it can’t be done.
Laughable, but I’m also having trouble taking in the quoted post claim that advertising is going to double their revenue.
huh? HUH?? www.friendlyatheist.com/p/before-you...
