How the right-wing British press became Trump’s trumpet Fleet Street is happy to ignore the real history of transatlantic relations to score points against Keir Starmer

Suez, Vietnam, the Falklands, Grenada: the "special relationship" survived them all. But maybe you have to have a smattering of history to write its first draft www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/lab...

How the right-wing British press became Trump’s trumpet Fleet Street is happy to ignore the real history of transatlantic relations to score points against Keir Starmer

Rather than concentrate on the wildfire war he's just started, Trump is spending his time on the phone with British journalists slagging off Keir Starmer. Their dictation skills turn out to be excellent www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/lab...

Churchill would have been appalled by a figure like Trump. But some journalists have convinced themselves that Starmer is to blame for this hiccup in the “special relationship” app.prospectmagazine.co.uk/story/72649/...

Press regulator IPSO to the Daily Telegraph: “Tell us how you came to publish an apparently fictional story.”

Zack Polanski gets under the skin of exactly the right people The Green leader has yet to advance workable, deeply thought through solutions to Britain’s biggest problems—but nor has Reform

The wailing, gnashing of teeth and sheer catastrophising over the Greens’ by election victory! Maybe it had something to do with their policies, most (not all) of which resonate with many people. And a rather good candidate. app.prospectmagazine.co.uk/story/72550/...

Perhaps we could stop calling the voters stupid and Polanski barking mad. His dentistry may not be immaculate. But he’s shown that he has quite a bite. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/gre...

The Church of England is still treating gay people as second-class citizens Bishops voted 34-0 to block gay couples from being blessed in standalone ceremonies. At what point do we call this discrimination?

If any other organisation continued to treat gay people as second-class citizens, they'd be held up to public ridicule and odium, if not legal action. How does the Church of England still get away with it? www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/religi...

Trump’s attack on the BBC is a harbinger of much worse to come The BBC has its problems—but they are nothing compared to the American billionaires who control much of US media

Trump’s suit against the BBC should be seen for what it is: an attempt to rewrite history. It’s also a bid to fill his own pockets, discredit the work of professional journalists and chill news organisations, writes Alan Rusbridger

Trump v the BBC: it's not hard (except for Liz Truss) to know which side to take. But there are bigger obstacles to overcome to secure the future of the BBC, and time is short. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...

The PM vowed to abolish the Lords. Why is he stuffing it with allies instead? In Matthew Doyle, we are about to get another less than stellar peer. Now is the time for change

It was obvious Matthew Doyle didn’t belong in the House of Lords. As I wrote just over a month ago app.prospectmagazine.co.uk/story/72007/...

Bezos could retrieve something from the disaster of his ownership of the @washingtonpost.com by emulating the Scott family in 1932. Give the paper away and endow it with, say, $1.5 bn. And have an independent trust run it in the public interest.

Matt Goodwin isn’t the winner Farage thinks he is The academic turned right-wing firebrand is Reform’s candidate for Gorton and Denton. But his ‘Broken Britain’ mantra is unlikely to convince voters

Matt Goodwin must be hoping no one in Gorton and Denton reads his Substack, with its obsession about too many Muslims and civilisational collapse. If only he hadn't picked a constituency which is 30% Muslim. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/pop...
