The time we wrapped up copies of Gogmagog and Ludluda in old maps, tied them with string and sent them out with a bookmark and a stained Jim Brimstone's Navy Rum coaster.

The most beautiful book I own - probably - is The Iron Giant by Ted Hughes, a 1968 hardback. I think reading things like this as a child ‘does things’ to a person.

21 East Crosscauseway, built around 1778 on what is now a side street but was then the only paved road in the south of Edinburgh, which linked the city’s two main roads south. (The name comes an unfortunate anglicisation of the Scots word "causey", meaning "paved".)
