I’m biased towards volcano books but would highly recommend any of these three for general interest!

2026: New £3.7M study to improve detection of dangerous volcanic eruptions | Cabot Institute for the Environment | University of Bristol

Millions of people live within 100km of a volcano that has had at least one significant eruption. Yet the warning signs that signal a shift from mild activity to a high-impact eruption remain unclear. A major new £3.7M research project aims to change this... www.bristol.ac.uk/cabot/news/2...

Excuse the dramatic music on the original video, but incredible webcam footage of PDCs from Semeru progressively infilling a stream channel, looks like it happened to be in just the right place! 🌋

Daily global temperature anomalies from 1940 to present, grouped by year, showing gradual global warming

2025 goes down as the ~3rd-warmest year on record (based on ERA5).

Like in 2024, every single day this past year was warmer than the average of even the most recent reference period (1991-2020).

Activity at Hayli Gubbi began in July when there was an eruption at Erte Ale. Magma propagated 30 km south passing under Hayli Gubbi. Since then, there has been a small plume, quasi-continuous SO2 emissions and uplift. Details in @uk-comet.bsky.social event response report: tinyurl.com/y3nfdfj8
