12.08.2025 10:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And there's no dark like a winter night in the country.
And there was a wind like this one tonight,
howling and whistling in off the sea.
You hear it under the door and it's like someone singing.
Singing in under the door at you. It was this type of night now.
Am I setting the scene for you? 1/
Iโve been feeling pretty good lately. So some Cormac McCarthy should fix that right up.

It absolutely floored me. I couldnโt believe Iโd never read it before.

Already inscribed, so Iโll have to add my John Hancock to it. This is something you pass down.

Hoping they get the reference and donโt think Iโm just being a rude twat.

I was around 11 when I saw this. I loved Quantum Leap. I didnโt quite understand this episode when I first saw it. They spelt Samโs name wrong. IYKYK.
But I get a tear in the eye and lump in the throat every time I see this. Every single time.

I finished #Stoner, by John Williams, and just wow. It was incredible. The story of a life but it totally enthrals you.
Itโs one of the best books Iโve ever read. I canโt recommend it highly enough.

On my #TBR list:
Stoner by John Williams.
A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene OโNeill.
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

Every now and then, for no reason, the last line of Arthur C. Clarkeโs short story โThe Nine Billion Names of Godโ runs though my head. Itโs a very frightening story.

Iโve been reading โThe Big Sleepโ by Raymond Chandler. Went into it blind and loved it. And yetโฆ am I being dense? Who the hell killed the chauffeur? Is it explained and I just missed it?
Bloody good read, though.

I donโt throw them away.
Does anyone else? Is this a thing? Iโm curious.

Going to France for a few days. So needed some holiday reading material. Something light, relaxing. So I chose Solzhenitsynโs โCancer Wardโ An allegory of life in the Soviet Union under Stalin, set in Cancer Ward 13 of a hospital in Tashkent.
