It’s hard to blame woke DEI when the military is losing a war because of the straits.
I enjoy deep dives into historical events I didn’t otherwise know about. Did you know that the US had a rigid airship program? And yeah, it ended predictably, but the story is fascinating. magazine.atavist.com/2025/america...
Friday: MOHAI is screening the excellent From Rails to Trails documentary
#SEAbikes #Seattle
the boxcar painted with "OLD MAN DEPRESSION" gives you a real sense of that famous Minnesota humor
My grandfather was actually a railroad engineer in Minnesota.
If this video is from the 1930s, there's a solid chance he was at the fair - meaning this could be his career origin story!
Poor guy never got to crash any trains, tho...
1. They were caught on tape.
2. It was a particularly brutal rape.
3. The whistleblower who leaked the video was forced into house arrest
4. Pro-rapist mobs showed up to proclaim their support for the IDF rapists.
5. One even got a fawning interview on a radio station.
6. THEY WERE CAUGHT ON TAPE
This is repugnant.
This is who he is. This is who he's always been.
Prince? Yes. Absolutely. Morris and crew? Sadly, no.
Uhhh, I think you might need a new doctor.
This may just be my own experience, but every time I've been abroad and mentioned any connection to Minnesota (I was born and raised there), people know two things about it - it's cold there and the people are regarded as genuinely nice and decent.
Sports gambling should be legal but you should have to go to an actual building to do it and it should be so off-putting and sad you’ll never want to do it again
I'd totally memory-holed it until I watched this doc! Watching them break down laughing at the ridiculousness of it all is so great!
You are not prepared.
I remember being in the living room with the fam and watching this live (dad was a big Home Improvement fan). I started laughing and was not able to explain to my confused family exactly why I thought it was so funny.
Apropos of nothing, @defector.com has the championship belt for best website on the internet right now. Both reminiscent of and better than the peak blog era internet.
New map shows surge in immigration arrests in the Pacific Northwest. Heavy rain continues. Linn County residents line up to oppose a solar project. Public records show Blazers' pressure on Portland to fund Moda reno. Thorns back. What we're following on @opb.org today: www.opb.org/article/2026...
Good reporting here from Rob Davis at @propublica.org on Oregon’s back and forth over campaign finance reform. Or, should I say, the legislature’s hemming and hawing over actually instituting campaign finance reform that voters overwhelmingly called for. www.propublica.org/article/oreg...
Yep
This is potentially huge. A whistleblower reported that OMB officials proposed transferring NCAR’s space weather program to a private, for-profit company, violating NSF’s public comment period and statutory limits.
The Onion has not lost their fastball.
If you, like me, have stumbled across the Wright Museum's GOLD TIER videos, you owe it to yourself to learn more about the place and the people who make it work.
So that's what the call with Putin last week was really about...
psssst
here's a secret:
trans people are just people
most of them are pretty cool honestly because surviving while trans in this timeline sort of forges them into diamonds
awesome, autonomy-grabbing diamonds
transphobes are petty weird losers
this has been my ted talk
“The humanitarian toll continues to mount with more than 17,000 injured in Iran since the US and Israel launched their war on February 28. UNICEF described the situation as “catastrophic”, noting that more than 1,100 children have been reported injured or killed.” www.aljazeera.com/amp/gallery/...
This is an astonishing story, or, really, the end of one that began with the building of the LA Aqueduct.
The LA Aqueduct was a engineering miracle, a gravity fed system that brought water 100s of miles to LA from the Owens Valley, designed by a self-taught engineer named William Mulholland.
Okay, now I'm picturing Victor Abiamiri and Tommy Z circling Altman with large sticks...
