07.04.2024 08:19 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Yup, hreiður is a generic term for a nest, for both birds
& mice :) I'd only heard of laupur so I did a bit of digging, apparently the raven's nest can also be called bálkur. The æðarfugl's (common eider) nest is æðarbás, the álft's (swan) is bunki and the lundi's (puffin) is lundahola :)
Did you know that the raven’s nest is called laupur in Icelandic? :)

Every egg has a proverb inside it and people share theirs and we discuss the meaning :) But you wanted to know how to say páskar didn't you? It is pronounced POW-scar, pow as in Batman's Pow! and scar as in, well scar, POW-scar. Gleðilega páska!

The lóa has arrived, it’s officially spring! The Icelandic word for spring is "Vor" and it’s pronounced [VOh-rr]. You start with Voh, which like saying "war" with a V and follow up with a rolling R :) Happy spring peeps!

24.03.2024 09:12 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0We’ve had our first sighting of the European golden plover this year! It is called “lóa” in Icelandic and is thought to be the bringer of spring, and as we all know, the lóa don’t lie! It is pronounced [LO-wah] - LO as in the word “low” and wah as in a chef’s kiss, mwah! 💋 Happy spring peeps!
23.03.2024 15:27 — 👍 13 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0“Eldgos” is Icelandic for volcanic eruption. It’s pronounced [ELLE-d-goss] - Elle, like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, followed by a soft D (sort of like turning Elle into a past tense verb 🤓) and ends with goss, as in some hot goss. Try it and let me know how you get on in the comments ☺️
