The 'AI-first' movement is desperately trying to make it work, even if it means that they will have to prepare 18,000 cups of water.

"We're still learning" or "it's still early" = it's not working for us, but we have to pretend it is.

"Some have taken to social media to complain about glitches and delays. Others are simply just weirded out. And then there is a contingent intent on trolling the system with orders like, '18,000 cups of water, please.'"

Given that writing is one of the best ways to improve one's thinking, we should all be concerned about the type of AI-powered society we are creating...

Regarding writing specifically, given the amount of "productivity" AI tools that are being pushed in this area, I'm confident that the next generations will have much worse writing skills than the previous ones.

These AI additions to mainstream tech products might seem like small design details, but they are already shaping personal and social behavior, and how our brains work.

WhatsApp (by Meta) is not the only company in this disempowerment-by-design movement.

If you're a Gmail user, Google has also been pushing its AI writing tool in every single email you start to draft (and in various other products, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and more).

It will be another force disempowering a whole generation of people (especially children and teenagers, who have never had other texting experiences), discouraging them from being authentic, creative, empowered, and self-aware, and pushing them to let the AI do it instead.
