You'd definitely need at least one Black character having some Really Complicated Feelings about how white the convention is and some of the tropes commonly being evoked—and navigating that with their own desires to be in the community and for what fantasies they have and crave to fulfill

I love the interplay of a community intentionally playing with power dynamics but then there's all these real world power dynamics on top do that it would be so white lotus-y and messy and uncomfortable and delicious.

The con volunteer who can only afford to attend the con because they're volunteering 40 hours and can barely even find the time to do kink stuff.

The overworked con organizers who are all fucking each other and stressed out of their minds

The transbian polycule where everywhere comes from very different economic backgrounds and has very different financial situations and they try not to talk about it too much but it severely affects the dynamics at play and creates a non-kink power dynamic overlaying the kink dynamics

New school is still arguing about the best way to frame the the ingredients. Imagination and expectations. Emotion, Engagement, Expectations, etc.

Old school: Hypnosis is a trance blending dissociation, relaxation, and hyperfocus to create suggestibility. Arguing about if relaxation is necessary.

New school: Hypnosis is utilizing imagination, focus, and expectation to utilize the fact that humans are suggestible. Trance is unnecessary

Old school teaches you how to do X through teaching the magic sequence of words and phrases that will cause X to happen. New school teaches you broad frameworks and theories for you to derive your own improvised methods from, usually as a framework for talking it through together as scene partners.

Old school sees Powerful hypnosis Techniques and explanations as dangerous arcane knowledge that shouldn't be shared too quickly. Old school is willing to trick newbies or not tell them the whole story in order to get them to believe in it up front. New School tells you everything up front, no trick

Old School sees hypnosis as amazingly powerful. New School sees the mind as powerful, and hypnosis as a kind of silly way to access that. Old School sees suggestions as programming, irresistible. New School only sees that as happening if you make the subject think that's how it works.

Old School is very concerned about the danger a hypnotist can do to a subject Because Of Powerful Hypnosis. New School is concerned about the danger of setting up either play party to feel unable to break out and do what they need to protect and advocate for themselves

New School is often either tranceless or does more of the suggestion building and safety planning prior to trance as a two-way conversation and understanding, and is less concerned with safety caveats mid-scene. New School empowers subjects and teaches subject skills as much as hypnotist skills.

New School HypnoKink: Sees self as the utilization of hypnotic phenomena for kink. Draws primarily from BDSM and contemporary psychology. RACK approach to ethics and risk. Follows Phenomenological Control hypothesis. Subject is primary agent. Fundamentally aims to be collaborative in approach.

Old school Erotic Hypnosis: Sees self as the erotic application of hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis. Learns from hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis, borrows the clinical approach to ethics and safety. Follows state hypothesis. Prescriptive and paternal approaches to risk. Hypnotist is the primary agent.

One big problem is most vanilla community spaces do absolutely nothing to mitigate COVID anymore which makes them pretty inaccessible to me. Kink spaces still actually take it somewhat seriously and in a more sane balanced approach. I think the way we discuss risk assessments helps
