One of my professors was the designers of the Scarlet Spider.

When the video games offered that costume option, my professor was never informed, despite being owed royalties. He had to chase Marvel down.

He died the same year Scarlet Spider was in Spider-Verse. They had to crowdfund his funeral.

Whatever else it can do, this tech adds work and erodes trust. The extra work is time-wasting and wearying, and I resent the erosion of trust most deeply. I cannot believe it is healthy for society to be ever less sure that anything you encounter is the real thought or expression of a fellow human

It's hard not to think, "I'm glad I didn't, someone else would be paid a large salary to adapt it to a movie script, and then someone else would be paid a bigger salary to make it a blockbuster."

When I was in my 20's, that's what I would've thought about anything I wanted to work on. "I love it, so it's fine."

Now I'm older and I realize, "Actually, maybe a retirement fund and healthcare would be better."

Page rates have stagnated since the 80's and Marvel/DC comic pages take a long time to make.

A lot of younger artists are willing to overlook that because, hey, you're passionate about this and getting to do what you love.

The thing I hear about Marvel/DC is that, if you're new, they lowball you as hard as the can and then put it in writing that you can't renegotiate your rates. You don't own what you make, per contract. They leave out residuals, and as a freelancer you don't get benefits.
