I finally noticed this post. Great UI, if you ask me. /snark/

Oh bother! I can find a post I just made, then reply to it, but damned if I can find my own reply to reply to that. I see other people doing chains of replies, but damned if I can *find* how they do it.
Maybe they are in my "feed", but that's too much of a firehose for me to want to look there.

No way that I've found to go from the reply to *what* it replied to though, AFAICT. And when I want to post something longer than a soundbite, the approved method seems to be to do it as a chain of replies to myself. But the UI is set up to make this difficult.

I made another brief visit to Bluesky, triggered by yet another person I know in RL joining up. I still don't "get" it, but I did find what appear to be replies to my posts, and replied to a reply that was more than a year old.

Even trying "show replies as threads" seems to be a no-op. Maybe you just have to have joined twitter in its earliest days, then followed it as it predictably removed any "training wheels" it had for learning to use it.

Necro posting here, because I only just *found* what appear to be replies to my posts. I'm certainly not here to play influencer. But how do I chat with people when I can't even figure out how to get from a post to its replies, or a reply to the post it was made to?

The short message length limit is supposed to be a feature, but not being able to post a whole paragraph at a time seems to me to guarantee both trivia (in the feed) and frustration (in my own posts). E.g. my prev post omitted a key point to get under the character limit.

I'm still having major trouble with the web interface, and failing to understand the whole point of "feeds" full of short trivia. I check in every few months, sometimes try to add another acquaintance who's told me their bluesky nick - often failing at that task - and then go away again.

Thank you for that. If you were optimizing for the best ROI here, I wouldn't follow you. Why bother following an influence-maximizing algorithm, whether or not it's in human form?

Is there any way to respond to someone who follows you, or for that matter to send a communication to some specific user of this service, other than (1) following them (they get notified) or (2) leaving an unrelated reply to a random post they made? Is this something everyone knows from Twitter?

I expect BlueSky to be an interesting adventure for me. I was never on Twitter, so there's plenty I don't already know about how this works.

True to my nature, I've found 2 1/2 bugs so far, but not yet determined either how to report them or whether such reports would be welcome.
