Really happy with the Portland city councilors who voted to ban AI price fixing, pass the detention fee ordinance, and start the pricess for a human rights screen on city investments.

There’s a lot of noise and bullshit out there, but these folks are governing with their values.

Agree. Inspiring leaders are a thing that people look to in times of desperation, when things feel hopeless. This can lead to authoritarianism. Obama had no such inclination, to his credit. But now look

I loved him too, at the time. He is such a charismatic person without even trying, and a gifted orator. But reading that article you posted, it all falls a little flat for me now tbh. That Keynesian approach didn't pan out.

Yeah I like how he highlights precarity. And that thing about it costing *us* to work is something I've felt all my working life, as someone who's always been in that zone between receiving social services and actually being able to achieve financial solvency ("building wealth" completely aside).

"Many garment workers make Nike products for below $1 per hour ... If Nike had returned the $18 billion it is spending on buybacks to workers instead, it could offer a $125 per month raise to every garment worker who makes Nike products for 10 years β€” doubling the wages of many."

Engage base to carry message, create clear moral quandary to convert the conflicted, and expose opposition for the true outliers they are. BRAVO to @ndlon.bsky.social for brilliant giving media something to talk about:
