Due to forecasted weather conditions, municipally owned and operated recreation facilities will close today, Sunday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. A decision regarding the opening of facilities, rentals and programs on Monday, Feb. 2, will be made later today.

Please remind children not to play or climb on snowbanks along roads and sidewalks. Snowbanks can hide traffic and snow-clearing equipment, and collapse without warning. Crews are working hard to clear streets safely. Help us keep everyone safe by choosing play areas away from roads.

In addition, the Halifax Forum ice surfaces (the Forum Arena and the Civic Centre) will be closed for the morning on Jan. 26. This is due to the potential for snow to accumulate on the building’s roof. A decision will be made at noon on Jan. 26 if afternoon/evening programming will continue.

Recreation Access Program Working to provide recreation opportunities to children, youth and adults in financial need.

Are you a member of one of these facilities looking for affordable access? Learn more and apply in 2026 to the municipal Affordable Access Program at halifax.ca/recreation-access.

Effective January 2026, multi-district facilities will be included in the Recreation Access Program. Previously, these facilities operated their own affordable access programs. New facilities include:
- Canada Games Centre
- Cole Harbour Place
- St. Margarets Centre
- Zatzman Sportsplex
