Very weird to see writers cheering for A.I. audiobooks. This is the same horrible machine that they want to replace YOU. Audiobook narrators are your peers.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if all you accomplish this weekend is reading a riveting novel cover-to-cover whilst drinking multiple kettles of tea and consuming a scandalous amount of croissants, then you will have accomplished more than enough.
I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

At #NCTE24 this week, this is the message I'll be sharing on repeat.

No way, it's beautiful! Realizing each other's and your own faults, and accepting them as they are and as they come, all for the chance at experiencing love. Understanding no one is perfect, including ourselves, can lead to beautiful second chances ๐ฅฐ
The people in the comments saying, "Wish Senate/Reps/whatever body of government was like this" are missing the point of this being Indigenous defiance against colonial government imposition. Colonizers will not protest their own colonizing.
Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before yโall start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

The Handmaid's Tale is a good book. But did you know that there's a book written by a Black woman about a post-apocalyptic Earth heavily affected by climate change and societal decline. The book was published in 1993, but is set in 2024 following a presidential election ๐ #BookSky #BlackBookSky

If anyone wants alternatives to Goodreads, I highly recommend walking out into the fields where the beehives sit in the hot sun, and telling the bees about what your reading, which characters you love, what book still haunts you all these years later. ๐ ๐
A couple of you have asked what length an SF novel should be. Here are SFWA's guidelines for the Nebula Awards:
1. Novel: Over 40,000 words
2. Novella: 17,500 - 40,000 words
3. Novelette: 7,500 - 17,500 words
4. Short story: Under 7,500 words
Hope that helps.
