Legal Orgs Sue Trump Admin Over Unlawful Policy of Arresting People Who Attend Mandated Court Hearings - NYCLU
This practice turns mandatory immigration proceedings into yet another weapon of the Trump administration's mass deportation agenda.
These tactics are cruel, unprecedented, and unjust. On behalf of our plaintiffs @africansus.bsky.social & The Door, we ask the court to swiftly to put a halt to it.

NY sues Trump administration for targeting gender-affirming care for youths
New York is joining over a dozen other states in suing the Trump administration over directives targeting gender-affirming care for minors.
Good. The AG is right to sue the Trump admin over its attacks on gender-affirming care for young people.
Next, Governor Hochul should sign S.4914-B, which will improve the state's existing "shield law" to ensure that people can access and provide gender-affirming care knowing NY has their backs.

Nassau County Wants to Fuel Trumpβs Mass Deportations
Nassau County's 287(g) agreement with ICE is illegal, and we're fighting it in court.
In a case we brought back in 2018, a New York State appellate court ruled that law enforcement officers do not have authority to enforce civil immigration law.
This means Nassauβs 287(g) agreement violates state law. We'll see County Executive Blakeman in court.

Suffolk police body cameras and misconduct allegations
Suffolk police body camera failures hinder misconduct investigations, eroding community trust, as detailed in the Human Rights Commission's latest report.
Suffolk police officers failed to activate their body cameras during 83 incidents in a 12-month period. Failing to turn on body cams impedes police transparency efforts + erodes trust in the dept.
Consistent body cam usage is essential to police and accountability. Suffolk police must do better.

Why NY Prison Guards Really Went on Strike - NYCLU
The footage of Robert Brooks being beaten to death by prison guards at Marcy Correctional spurred cries for reform to end the culture of impunity for prison guards.

Four Months After Guard Strike, Prison Staffing Crisis Persists
The prison agency's security ranks are 4,700 corrections officers and sergeants short of what it says it needs to run every program and housing areaβ¦
At least 7 incarcerated people died in February when thousands of NYS prison guards walked off the job in a wildcat strike. Many never returned to work after the strike ended.
4 months later, thousands of jobs remain vacant, and prisons have had to cancel summer school, weekend visitation and more.
