At the Fairness Project, we are proud to back Coloradans for a Level Playing Field and citizen-led redistricting efforts across the country.

We're supporting multiple ballot measures across the country that aim to give voters the power to vote directly on their own congressional districts.

NEW: Grassroots organizers just launched a citizen-led ballot campaign, Coloradans for a Level Playing Field.

Their mission is straightforward: to put the power in the hands of Colorado voters to approve congressional district maps.

At the Fairness Project, we vow to continue championing ballot measures and defending against ballot measure attacks nationwide.

These attacks include proposed rules that would allow politicians to control how measures would be worded and appear on the ballot.

Others create hurdles that make it harder for citizens to pass legislation or get an initiative on the ballot in the first place.

“While most Americans are rightfully focused on the horrors being committed by the federal government, their state governments are seizing this moment to attack their rights closer to home," said Executive Director of the Fairness Project Kelly Hall.

State legislators introduced more than 65 bills attacking ballot measures in the first month of 2026.

This kind of anti-democratic legislation aims to strip voters’ rights to ballot measures, equal representation, and nonpartisan courts.

Free and fair elections are under attack.

Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are trying to rig the midterm elections by manipulating congressional maps without voter approval.

This is a temporary, emergency step to ensure fair, transparent congressional maps ahead of the 2026 elections.

Missouri campaign turns in 300K signatures to strike down gerrymandered map The signature dropoff marked a critical moment for the referendum campaign, but its fate is still unclear.

Missouri's People Not Politicians campaign (@peoplenotpolsmo.bsky.social) turned in 300,000+ signatures to BLOCK a gerrymandered map.

Thanks to the tireless work of volunteers, that map will be suspended until Missouri voters get to decide on the issue.

This bill is soon expected to be signed into law by Kehoe and is part of a nationwide trend of attacks on direct democracy

BREAKING: Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has called a special legislative session, allowing representatives to pass a bill curbing voters’ access to direct democracy.

Not content with eroding the democratic process through gerrymandering, the governor is now also taking aim at ballot measures.

We’re not giving up in the face of this assault on direct democracy, and neither should you.

State legislative efforts to silence voters have increased by 95% since 2023. And legislators aren’t shy about it.

In May of this year, Nebraska Republican Senator Tony Sorrentino said, “The will of the people is overrated.”

Direct democracy is under assault.

Politicians around the country are attempting to make it harder for their constituents to utilize ballot measures, a valuable tool that can be used to protect abortion access, raise wages, stop predatory lenders, expand Medicaid, secure paid leave, and more.

We’re witnessing a disturbing trend of legislators around the country attempting to silence the voice of the people by taking away or diminishing direct democracy.

We are fighting back.

We have partnered with grassroots organizers across the country to support wage increases through ballot measures in 11 states, and we don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

Today marks 16 years since the last federal minimum wage increase. The bad news is that Washington politicians continue to fail working families by not raising the minimum wage in over a decade.

The good news is that voters can raise wages themselves at the state level—and many of them already have
