Happy for you! Been on this journey a long time but you've summed it up very well. Short-acting variants like Ritalin (Methylphenidate) and Dexamphetamine (Dexedrine? in the US) last 4-6 hours, Vyvanse and other "XR" (Extended Release) kinds can last anywhere from 8-12.

Something to note if you're going the Raspberry Pi route is that you will need at least a Pi 4 (2GB RAM minimum) and a microSD card that is at least A2-class. Anything slower (A1, etc.) will have you ripping your hair out. The SanDisk Extreme Pro/Plus microSDXC cards are quite good.

So long as you have a Raspberry Pi or spare old PC handy, it's very easy. PiHole and AdGuard Home both act as locally hosted DNS content blockers, and are distributed as containers via Docker. I have my Raspberry Pi running "Home Assistant OS" which lets you add containers ("Add-ons") very easily:

Also speaking from my own past as an autistic child, as your children will also no doubt be ridiculously smart, they will eventually find ways around your restrictions. Certain safety/control methods like DNS blocking don't require admin controls to change, so this is easy to get around.

I'll never have kids, but growing up how I did with practically unrestricted internet access, has undoubtedly affected me, and still does to this day. I'd never let my child anywhere near the open internet without insane restrictions.

If you're not as tech savvy at doing things yourself, you may have some trouble with the 2nd option. If you have a Raspberry Pi, it's very easy to do. Some routes these days even have built-in AdGuard or PiHole equivalents, so it might be worth looking through the settings for those.

The best things you can do in this situation is 1. Use uBlock Origin in the browser to block browser ads and pop-ups, and 2. Set up AdGuard Home or PiHole on your network to block ads and explicit content at the network level, blocking things like ads in apps.

The discover feed on here is so ass. I can only use this app to scroll the few people I follow in my following feed, then close it and go back to Twitter for the dopamine. I wish I could get rid of Twitter but Bluesky really still can’t compare.

Even with over 70 muted words and phrases, and tapping “See less like this” a countless number of times, I think the Discover feed is actually just useless. Literally can’t get rid of American political content at all.
