The sacrifice these men and women made, including those working at home, was immense. I don't think I appreciated it until I grew old!
Used to say he saved 100 men's lives! He shot the cook!
His joked his demob suit was the first time he had a new suit.
Tragically his younger brother was with him when his ship went down but he was never found. My father had a survivor's guilt complex till the day he died.

My father - a Liverpool docker, had been as far as Blackpool before the war. That took him to North Africa, Egypt and Italy( Anzio and Monte Casino). He was torpedoed in the Med and was picked up by an Australian ship.
He used to joke about it his army career.
Walton Liverpool!
It was identified in the 70s and and a memorial stone was placed in it in a ceremony attended by local Trade Unionists and Eric Heffer our local MP.
Robert Noonan ( aka Tressell) came to Liverpool when he was ill and entered a workhouse where he died. I think he did not want to be a burden to his family. He was buried in a paupers unmarked grave with 12 other poor people in a cemetery near where I lived
in Walton Librrpool.
What time in the UK?
Mexico might be difficult as well.
Not to mention handcuffing women prisoners in childbirth to the bed.
Reminds me of Dan Quayle spelling potato as potatoe in a school classroom. π
I had mine in the home of an ancient retired surgeon. It was in his spare bedroom. I can still remember the smell of burning and the sizzling noise as he sealed the tubes with what looked like a soldering iron. Apologies to anyone who has booked theirs in the coming weeks.
It was dire! I kept switching over to the ice hockey final.
I wonder what attracted the Campaign Manager to Goodwin?
I think a lot of damning evidence will be in the Epstein files which the police have requested from the DoJ.
about millions of people like Juan who has contributed culturally, socially and financially to the UK.
Speaking to the Maitre'D at breakfast this morning. He was telling us in perfect English that he was returning to Argentina this week. He has loved living here and his wife is now a fan of LFC. Remember when politicians decry someone as " English is not their first language" they are talking
I stuck it about 25 minutes! She is hateful.
As a Brit I had to stop watching as I could feel my Blood Pressure rising to life threatening levels. God knows how US citizens could watch it. She is just obnoxious!
On all the BBC news bulletins including Look North it was reported , " Starmer is safe ............ for now!" This is not reporting news it is stating an opinion. You can sense their wishful thinking!
Looks like our Prime Minister will be resigning because of Peter Mandelson's relationship with Epstein.
Been an active member for years. At times I was tempted to leave but I will stick with them out of loyalty. If Starmer goes I'm not sure who will follow him. Can't support Streeting or Rayner.
So only a 1 game ban for preventing a goal scoring chance.
Yes 3 games violent conduct.
I've had it with the BBC. Trump

We began sponsoring a young girl in Burundi about 45years ago when it was Action in Distress. Still sponsoring - she is probably retired by now π
those affected. Hence when they did find out it was a shock. My wife is a Waspi women but did not support their campaign.
I think their gripe is that the intention to equalise the retirement age was announced in the 1993 budget. It was to be phased in gradually starting in 2010. However the Coalition Gov decided in 2011 to accelerate the phasing in. The ombudsman found that this change was not adequately advertised to
Labour got 33% of the vote in 2024 so you could argue that 67% did not want Starmer as PM. So perhaps his numbers have improved? He's doing fine in my opinion.
Of course it was the Tory/ Lib Dem coalition that accelerated the phasing in!
By the way she would have nothing to do with Waspi. She was more angry at Stockton Borough Council's refusal to give her a bus pass till she was 67. She hectored our Labour MP about this whenever we met and I often wonder if she was instrumental in his decision to retire at the last election π.
