“The clergy, who hail from a range of traditions and worship communities across the country, sang on the buses as they ventured out into the street.”
This is absolutely amazing and inspiring and oh it is -10 degrees (that’s right negative) in Minneapolis today.
This morning Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg touts a more than 50% reduction in borough shootings since taking office four years ago, through targeted enforcement and community engagement.
Progressive prosecution works!
Independents support 47-35%!
Wow — New YouGov / Economist poll:
46% support abolishing ICE
43% oppose abolishing ICE
This is the first time that abolishing ICE has received net positive support
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis
The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway
They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming
Yesterday’s killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent is a devastating tragedy. When federal power expands without accountability, communities are made less safe.

So,
1. The GOP predictably voted the anti-"cashless bail" bill, HR 5213, out of committee today
The bill would literally reduce public safety in the name of public safety
The bill allows POTUS to hold the public safety funding for any jurisdiction with bail reform hostage
The day after Minneapolis, half of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee abstained from a vote that would give the Trump DOJ grounds to cut off funding Illinois, New Jersey and New York because of their bail policies.
The Trump administration is already considering legislation that would immunize ICE agents from state prosecution. This is why.
Democrats cannot let that happen.

Tomorrow (Thursday), the US House Judiciary Committee will attempt to mark up & move HR 5213
5213 will stop the award of Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants to States or units of local government that limit the use of cash bail.

I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.
He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.
These attacks on due process for immigrants are a test run for weakening due process protections for all of us
This administration wants to be able to convict people on accusations and press releases
DUE PROCESS is our CORE PROTECTION against a tyrannical government
Excited to launch our first We Dream podcast with a series on the impending Trump "crime bill." Join me, @joshuabhoe.bsky.social, and more!
Over the next few months we'll be sharing what's going on and how to beat this terrible bill. On Spotify and other platforms.

For people who have waved off Trump’s rhetoric in the past as outrageous but not actionable, consider this:
The coming Trump “crime bill” will likely include provisions that make it easier for the DOJ to label political opposition as “organized crime”
When the "crime bill" comes, we need every Democrat to vote no.
Read here to learn why: janosmarton.substack.com/p/the-coming...
The 14 (!) bills related to DC criminal justice are a warm-up after for the coming Trump "Crime Bill", which will be an undemocratic power grab.
Democrats must oppose these DC bills in the Senate and get ready to fight the "crime bill."
This has nothing to do with safety.
Yesterday 28 House Dems joined Republicans in overturning DC's bail policies.
Many of these are "front-liners" who have been advised by lame consultants that bashing DC, criminal justice, and immigrants is the path to victory.
That's dangerous & wrong.

The House has passed H.R. 5214, a bill to return DC to cash bail.
Cash bail creates two tiers of justice, one for people with money and one without. DC abolished it more than 30 years ago and crime has dropped precipitously since.
H.R. 5214 is wrong and we will continue to fight its passage.
Right now the House is holding a sham, partisan hearing about crime in Democratic cities.
Pay attention - they are teeing up Stephen Miller's "crime bill", coming to you in time for next year's midterms.
Thankfully @raskin.house.gov is pushing back!

This is a power grab, not a bill about public safety.
Why would we trust this Republican Party to keep Americans safe, after all they've done to erode the public safety net and terrorize our cities?
This a must vote NO bill!

Dear Dems: Don't cave!
We need Democrats to hold the line in the House. Many have stood up for DC on other bills, but plenty have also fallen short.
If this is your member, tell them to vote NO!

This is a preview of what's coming this winter when Trump reveals his "crime bill" for the midterms.
That bill is dangerous and destructive, and will not only drive up the number of people in prison, but give Trump more federal power.
janosmarton.substack.com/p/the-coming...
This is one of many anti-democratic bills where House Republicans, at the behest of Stephen Miller, are going after DC's autonomy.
We need to stand up for the people of DC - like these 180 organizations have.
www.tzedekdc.org/news-1/2025/...
This will make DC less safe. Places with cash bill have worse records on safety & recidivism.
Look at DC itself! It is a far safer place than it was in 1992, when it passed its bail reforms.
Studies have shown the same results across the country:
www.brennancenter.org/our-work/res...
Tomorrow the House votes on a bill that overturns D.C's bail system and imposes cash bail for the first time since 1992.
This will make DC less safe, erode home rule, and preview what Stephen Miller wants to bring to the whole country.
We need every Dem to vote NO.

There is absolutely no way the wanton proliferation of data centers & AI are worth it if means millions of families are defaulting on their jacked up utility bills.
