The Supreme Court is quietly editing the Human Rights Act out of existence. In cases where human rights cannot be...
Prof Conor Gearty on the UK Supreme Court’s legal tactics for erasing the Human Rights Act.
“The current members of the Supreme Court, ten men and two women, all of them white, seem to regard the Human Rights Act as an unwelcome remnant of a past era”.

Bear with me, I anticipate your disagreement. There is a clear pattern to the advice given to those who want to press back against rising racism. What it boils down to is that if you point out that racism is often being dressed up as “legitimate concerns” you will alienate people. /1

Report: Home building to halt in West London, due to data center power demands
All the electricity capacity is already used up, GLA tells developers
Posting this again. Not enough electricity left to build affordable homes in 3 west London boroughs, because all capacity has been used by a data centre.

Corey Wiley on Twitter writes: "You don’t get it.
Foundational immigration law is morally just and has been established over millennia. Disrespecting these rules and ideals is very offensive to folks who highly value civilized society"
Not true.

What is also interesting is that at [55] of the judgment it becomes clear that this was not an isolated incident by the barrister in question.... I wonder how, if at all, this will impact the referral to regulators.

UK judge sounds alarm on AI misuse in courts
The warning comes after so-called hallucinations — AI-generated fictions — have cropped up at big law firms.
In a stern intervention, a judge at the High Court of England and Wales issued a formal warning to legal professionals on Friday, declaring that lawyers who submit fictitious cases generated by AI could face criminal charges.

Contributions should explore any of the links between the two concepts, such as the use of EIA as a tool for climate change mitigation or adaptation, and the application of EIA to climate projects. 🧵2/4

SHOULD THE UK BAN TWITTER?
Podcast Episode · Quiet Riot · S1, E32 Bonus · 10m
Five months ago, I recorded a 10-minute explanation, as a former regulator, of why the UK would be not only perfectly within its rights to ban twitter, but probably ought to.
Maybe now people will listen.

Agree completely — not just enough to assert substitution (or significant substitution) but to prove perfect (or virtually perfect) substitution, which is a very high burden. Also, very clear summary on downstream emissions and MSA in the case at [187] by Holgate J (as he then was).

Very interesting decision and very interesting consideration of the market substitution argument, which hasn’t been considered in substance earlier (by the English courts).
