Sorry @colinbrady.bsky.social just realized I ruined your good Nets vibes thread! It was not intentional! Ignore my pessimism! Back to good vibes!
What's your take on the positionless approach? I feel like our "positionless" players are less guys who can legitimately play multiple positions and more guys who don't fit comfortably into any position, so every matchup is defined more by what they're giving up than what they're providing.
Obviously now our play style doesn't really matter because we're trying to lose, so I get why Jordi's pushing an identity we can't fulfill. Every other non-Big-three year has just kind of felt like playing pace-and-space basketball without pace-and-space players.
Even talking through this now I'm finding it hard to process Marks' tenure because there's always some weird externality handcuffing us. It's hard to distinguish what's intentional from what's necessary. But I think I'm struggling to think of a time when our play style matched our personnel.
Also I should specify: If your read on the situation is accurate (and I really think it could be), it stands to reason that it would take him a bit to get back to form. He spent a few years disempowered in a probably unreasonably pressurized environment.
When I think about this in terms of the draft, Marks is so good at finding rotation talent. I get the sense that his scouting style is just never going to spot a diamond the way OKC or Miami or Indiana can. I have a feeling we'll learn we missed out on 2-3 superstars in between last year's picks.
I think this is a super fair read and I'm inclined to agree, though I still feel like Marks hasn't yet gotten back his stride. He had such an eye for bargain talent early in his tenure (Spencer, Joe, Demarre, Ed Harris) and everyone since then feels like at most 70% of those finds.
Probably unfair to Marks but I've struggled to have faith in him since the Nash hiring, which has made me overly critical of even the mundane transactions he's made since.
At the same time idk who I'd want instead! But Marks as a GM feels like Mikal as a player--solid but not enough to build around
One of my hot and probably incorrect Nets takes is that JV was a better coach than he got credit for and we just did not set him up for success after he crushed the bubble!
If I’m being honest I think it’s more likely that in my lifetime the team gets sold and moved than wins a championship.
Only just now dawning on me how similar in legacy, identity, and reputation the Mets, Jets, and Nets are, which doesn’t feel good!
‘Hey’ came before ‘hi,’ and ‘hi' came before ‘hello.’
‘Hi’ is most likely a variant of ‘hey.’
‘Hello’ is not related to either.
Goodbye.
the "which do you like better, these three sentences from AI or from a classic" reminds me of the Pepsi Challenge. People genuinely did prefer Pepsi for one sip, because it's sweeter. But they strongly strongly prefer Coke overall, because no one wants sickly sweet for an entire bottle

Honestly those JV bubble wins with TJ were pretty electrifying, too

Finally watched Russian Ark and wow
If I have to deal with people who love James Harden I'm going to continue to fawn over SGA, haters be damned. One of my favorite players.
I'm not being bitter or confrontational when I say I don't think I could name what many other Democrats stand for besides "Isn't Trump bad??"
Oh my god I loved that one. DDJ!
My all-time favorite was the Rondae-led comeback against Sacramento during that magic pre-big 3 year when we squeaked into the playoffs. Back when a late season victory brought me joy instead of pain.
Thankfully I mostly do pilates and spin so I’ve had it pretty easy. Pilates has been generally fine. Spin has been much tougher/required a lot of adjustment and increased off days.
But running has been impossible. It feels like a miracle Egor played as much and as well as he did this season.
IIRC Brook Lopez dealt with it, too.
As someone dealing with it right now I gotta say: The pain is pretty brutal. Granted I don't have a world class performance team behind me but it started in December and is only now subsiding to a point of being able to lightly jog on it.
Same day as Egor getting shut down for the season, too 🥲
my prediction is this kind of gleeful anti-social, low-trust behavior is going to be stigmatized by Woke 2.0 www.curbed.com/article/whol...
Unless we have a very specific next signing in mind this doesn't make any sense to me!
Maybe the best lyrics of any song I've ever heard. Wish this moment wasn't what reminded me of them.
I find these types of posts really aggravating, both because the subtext is always “I’m one of the brave few appropriately measuring this danger” and because the real problem is what exactly are we all supposed to do about any of this when elected officials are posting basically the same thing?
