Thomas Jefferson met a starving woman laborer in France in 1785. She burst into tears over a small coin he gave her. He went home and wrote to Madison: 'legislators cannot invent too many devices' to reduce inequality. That's a Founder. That's the blueprint we must follow.

Hamilton wanted the luxury of the rich to fund the public treasury. Instead we invented "buy, borrow, die" — a system where the ultra-wealthy pay nothing and leave the debt to us. He'd have called it what it is. Theft.

“an enormous Proportion of Property vested in a few individuals is dangerous to the Rights, and destructive of the Common Happiness, of Mankind" - proposal submitted by Benjamin Franklin to be enshrined in the first Pennsylvania Constitution in 1776.

Thomas Jefferson to James Madison
October 28th 1785. Exempt the poor from taxation entirely. Tax the wealthy progressively as wealth rises. His words. His idea. His Republic. Next time someone calls progressive taxation socialism — remind them which Founding Father proposed it.

In October of 1785 Jefferson wrote Madison that enormous inequality produces misery, and proposed exempting the poor from taxation while taxing higher wealth in geometrical progression as it rises. That's not socialism. That's Jefferson. In a letter. To Madison. Look it up.

The 'Pursuit of Happiness' in the Declaration has a definition. John Adams wrote it in 1776: ease, comfort, and security. You were never taught that. Ask yourself why.

John Adams’ Thoughts on Government

Capitalism vs Socialism is a false choice invented after the Founders died. Jefferson never said capitalism. Adams never said socialism. They said General Welfare. Ease, Comfort, Security - in a word Happiness, to the greatest number. Stop fighting over their labels. Demand their outcomes.

To my brother on current events:
What do you think would help?

His answer:

I truly don't know. I've learned I'm no political prognosticator, no political strategist. I'm just a warm body that hopefully does the right thing on occasion.

Did you read the article you linked? The Blackfoot achieved 80-90% self-actualization — compared to 5-10% in American society — precisely because the community guaranteed everyone's security. Rugged individualism is the lie. Community actualization is the foundation. No one thrives in a vacuum.

92 years ago today, FDR sent the Emergency Banking Act to Congress — the first piece of New Deal legislation.
The ultra-wealthy called it socialism. The Founders would have called it the "General Welfare."
We've been fighting the same fight for a century.

What if the "Pursuit of Happiness" wasn't vague Enlightenment poetry—but a specific, concrete mandate for economic security?

What if the Founders were more radical than either party wants to admit?

I spent months in the primary sources. Here's what I found.

The original Declaration condemned slavery. It was cut for political reasons for South Carolina & Georgia. They knew the truth and chose to defer it. Took a war and three amendments to finish the job. Sounds like Terra Nullius had a similar reckoning.

I wrote a thing.
It's called "True Americanism."
It's free, it's short, and it might piss off everyone equally.

Before "suffrage" had a name, Abigail Adams was writing to her husband demanding women have a voice in government—using the exact same "no taxation without representation" logic the Founders used against the King.

The 19th Amendment proved she was ahead of their time.

Abigail Adams, 1776: "Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could... we will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation."
She called for women's suffrage before the word existed—using her husband's own revolutionary logic against him.

I’m arguing that economic justice is not “un-American.”
John Adams defined the purpose of government as ease, comfort, and security.
Thomas Paine argued that extreme wealth owes a debt back to society.
This account is about reclaiming American identity from oligarchy — using the Founders’ own words.

If you're exhausted, angry, and can't quite explain why — you're not broken. You're paying attention. That's not a malfunction. That's citizenship.

The February jobs report lost 92,000 positions. Defense stocks are up. Energy stocks are up. The only growth industry in America right now is war. That's your Labor. That's your Time. Crystallized and spent — without your consent.

Congress just failed to pass a War Powers resolution. Your representatives couldn't find the spine to assert the authority the Constitution explicitly gives them. Nobody asked you. Nobody asked them either — because asking was never the point.
