How we miss sampling! Did you know that in the 1960s, Verona was the top province in Italy for cherry production?π Today, cherry orchards are shrinking (1,300 ha) due to urbanization, vineyards and hill management issues; the system has evolved from mixed crops to specialized, high-density plots.ππ
First year of TRANSForm sampling in Italy done!πTo better understand biodiversity, we tested various techniques: pan and pitfall traps for pollinators and carabids, Audiomoth to study birds, netting for targeted pollinator capture, topsoil cores for chemical-physical analysis, and eDNA extraction.ππ³
First sampling season of the TRASNFOrm project in Val Venosta/Vinschgau is done!π³Our 10 sites are among the few traditional orchard meadows left in South Tyrol (IT), which have declined >90% since 1950sβa heritage worth conserving. #Vinschgau #OrchardMeadows #TRANSFOrmProject
This week, #TRANSFORM was presented at the IALE 2025 European Landscape Ecology Congress in Bratislava πΊοΈ
Eleonora Palmeri (University of Verona) introduced the projectβs objectives, shared the planned activities, and highlighted the institutions involved in #TRANSFORM π
Just back from the HUMANITA Summer School in Villach: an inspiring week on how European regions monitor tourism impacts in protected areas. Lots of useful insights for the TRANSFOrm project on agroforestry systems and nature-based solutions, plus valuable new connections!

!!! SUPER EXCITED !!!
We choose 3 types of fields:
- Abandoned π³
- Extensive π±
- Intermediate π
for a total of 15 sites spread across the Veronaβs hills!
Follow the project to stay updated and not miss a thing!πΈ
