They are one of the oldest tribes in India, known for their distinct cultural practices, including traditional attire, shaved heads for married women, and a unique language called Remo. The Bonda are largely subsistence farmers, hunters, and gatherers, with a significant portion of their livelihood relying on forest resources.
A Bonda lady is shown from the back. She is wearing a short skirt called a Ringa. Her neck is adorned with aluminum rings. Her arms are covered in dozens of aluminum bracelets. She is wearing a multitude of colourful beads that hang like a bib to cover her front torso which can not be seen from this angle. Her head is covered with a beaded beanie.
Known as "the naked people," the Bonda women of Odisha artfully cover themselves with hundreds of yellow, orange and white beads, cascading elegantly like a brilliant bib. The crowning accessories include a beaded skullcap over a shaven head, silver neck and ear rings, and a brass nose ring.
The Bonda inhabit the Malkangiri district of southwesternmost Odisha, India. They are generally semi-clothed and known as "the naked people" The tribe is one of the oldest and most primitive in mainland India. Their culture has changed little in over a thousand years.
