How can anyone trust anything that emerges from the BLS when the person in charge of the agency will almost certainly have to come up with data to Trump’s liking?

Answer: They cannot.

Trump has destroyed the credibility of this extraordinarily important source of information.

Texas Democrats aren’t running away from anything. They’re fighting, with every tool they have, to save our democracy.

Kudos to each and every one of them for taking this stand. We should be inspired by their courage and reminded that tyranny is only possible if we submit to it.

Food Stamp Cuts Could Deal a Blow to Small Grocers

SNAP is vital to local economies and a stabilizer during recessions. Republicans' cuts to the program put food retailers at risk and will increase food insecurity nationwide. Check out CAP's research featured in the latest from the NYT ⬇️ www.nytimes.com/2025/08/03/u...

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

'I don't care about Direct File': IRS chief says agency plans to end free filing program Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Bill Long said the agency will end its Direct File program.

The IRS's free Direct File tool is now "gone," according to Trump's IRS chief.

This comes after tax prep companies like Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, lobbied the for years to block it.

Intuit donated $1M to Trump’s inauguration.

See how this works?

"An antidote to despair!" Your reviews of The Last Class film about Robert Reich

Friends β€” I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to power the improbable theatrical run of @imcivicaction.bsky.social’s film, The Last Class, about my final semester of teaching.

One viewer called it β€œAn antidote to despair!”

Here's what others are saying about it:

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.Β

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

I love America and am proud of much that this nation has accomplished.

But, undeniably, we now face a brutal set of crises, headed by the decline of democracy and deterioration of the rule of law.

How did we get here? I explore this in my new book. More info here: https://sites.prh.com/reich

The Smithsonian removed references to Trump’s impeachments from its presidency exhibit, months after he targeted the museum in an executive order.

Why is he attacking a museum?

FEC records show Elizabeth Fago donated $1M to Trump's super PAC in April.

What happened next?

Three weeks later Trump pardoned her son, a nursing home executive who pleaded guilty to withholding millions from his workers' paychecks (while buying a luxury yacht).

Trump destroys our source of information about jobs. This is beyond irresponsible. He hates facts. He rejects truth. He doesn't want the public to know what's really happening.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is the crown jewel of knowledge about jobs and the economy.

Trump has destroyed the credibility of this extraordinarily important source of information.

This should alarm everyone. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/trump-destroys-our-source-of-information

Job growth is slowing to levels not seen since the pandemic.

Inflation is up as more tariffs hit.

Meanwhile, Trump is opening new golf courses, planning for a $200M White House ballroom, and diverting taxpayer dollars to renovate his "free" jet from Qatar.

"New Golden Age."

When I was Secretary of Labor, one of my cardinal responsibilities was to guard the independence of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If politicized, it would no longer be trusted as a source of information. So what does Trump do? With one fell swoop today, he destroyed it.

That’s roughly 0.00375% of his total net worth.

Oligarchs can spend pennies to rig the system in their favor at the expense of everyone else.
