Splendid Sphagnum
There is just a little snow covering this Sphagnum Moss by an icy vernal pool. Sphagnum bogs store large amounts of carbon reducing global warming. Dried sphagnum moss called peat moss is sold for gardens. The extraction of this peat releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
