Circulating Neutrophil and Monocyte Counts Are Inversely Associated With Heart Rate Variability Indices: The Maastricht Study | Journal of the American Heart Association

Happy to share our latest publication showing that higher neutrophils and monocytes, but not other leukocytes, were linked to lower heart rate variability β€” a sign of reduced flexibility in how the heart responds to daily demands.

At the dawn of 2025, I received the second notification this week of an accepted manuscript.

A wonderful way to close out 2025 and step into 2026 with renewed motivation and momentum.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the very best for the year ahead!

Fetal liver #macrophages support red blood cell production and pyrenocyte clearance in the developing embryo. Stifter, Greter et al. demonstrate that XPR1, a phosphate exporter and regulator, is required for the development and function of fetal liver macrophages. rupress.org/jem/article/...

Hi Lizzy, great to find you back here on Bluesky! Just voted. Nice coincidence, we are also currently looking at inflammatory differences in MASLD development, after previously in obesity!

Today I presented our data on sex differences in experimental #MASH development at the MASLD-EGIR Study group meeting in Pisa showing earlier #steatosis, #inflammation and glucose intolerance in females but more fibrosis in males. Great conference! @gastaldelli-amy.bsky.social

Thrilled and honoured to chair the #VeniVidiVici session at #CARIMday2025! It's inspiring to see so many talented researchers achieving success in securing grants. Especially proud to serve as Chair of the Carim Research Council and witness this incredible progress! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰ @carimmaastricht.bsky.social

@sabinedaemen.bsky.social investigates how immune cells can repair liver fibrosis. A big step toward fighting one of the world’s most pressing metabolic diseases and emerging CVD risk factor.

At the #ADDRM, @sabinedaemen.bsky.social, postdoc in my group, presented her work on sex differences in a mouse model of #MASH, an area where most data still rely on male mice. She found sex-specific differences in hepatic steatosis, fibrosis progression, and glucose intolerance.πŸ‘πŸπŸ”¬

Inspiring presentation of Gemma Figtree at #EASCongress2025 on treating #atherosclerosis as a disease rather than traditional risk factors, especially considering that 25% of MI patients show none of them.

The Biggest Lie About Weight Loss And Exercise YouTube video by Global Cycling Network

Kudos @GCN for a balanced analysis on claims that #exercise does not induce #weightloss: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUGF...
As mentioned here (bjsm.bmj.com/content/59/2...) it's about adherence.
For me, first 20-25kg were dietary pattern changes (not dieting), the next few kg definitely exercise.
