If the US and UK don't like the way the ayatollahs govern Iran, maybe they shouldn't have overthrown a democratically-elected leader who treated Iran as an independent nation, instead of a colony.

Since Trump started a war with Iran, maybe now would be a good time to publicly release the historical documentation on how badly the British and Americans mistreated the Iranian people with the help of British Petroleum dating back all the way to the early 1900's.

A close-up color photograph of Iranian mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani (1977–2017), the groundbreaking Fields Medal winner and Stanford professor renowned as the first woman and first Iranian to receive mathematics' highest honor in 2014. Captured during the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) at the COEX convention center in Seoul, South Korea (August 2014), she is seated at a press conference or panel, resting her chin thoughtfully on her left hand with her elbow propped up, conveying deep concentration and quiet introspection. Mirzakhani has short dark brown hair, expressive blue-green eyes gazing slightly upward and to the side, and a subtle, contemplative expression with lightly furrowed brows and a gentle half-smile. She wears a dark blue or navy top and wears an earpiece and thin boom mic. The vibrant turquoise-blue background displays large white lettering reading "COEX Sec" (part of "COEX Seoul" or similar event branding), softly blurred behind her, with a faint shadow of her figure adding depth. This intimate portrait captures Mirzakhani's characteristic humility, intellectual intensity, and grace amid the historic moment of her Fields Medal recognition, symbolizing her profound contributions to the geometry and dynamics of Riemann surfaces and moduli spaces.

Glock pistol used in deadly shooting at Old Dominion University was illegally sold to shooter, a convicted felon under probation, by a man federal ATF agents knew was selling guns illegally. He previously received a "warning letter" & had to write an apology.

It's time to enforce our gun laws

Talarico on Trumpworld's "short term pain" talking point: "I'd like them to tell that to the parents of the American troops who have lost their lives. That is not short term pain. That is pain that will last forever ... no one asked for this."

You might also avoid music with very sweeping melodies that can become ear worms, even without words. Tchaikovsky and Beethoven melodies turn into ear worms very easily, while Debussy, Faure, and Chopin are lovely but not tuneful in the same way.

You definitely want to stay away from Gilbert and Sullivan, then!

With most operas, the lyrics are not what you'd call catchy. To put it mildly.

What kind of music do you like to listen to? If you like pop, then very melodic composers like Puccini or Massenet are a good start. If you're more of a rock person, then you might like Verdi and Beethoven. If you like complex music, Mozart and Handel are great.

An original artwork of a wren perched on a branch, created using watercolour paints on 5x7" watercolour paper.

The wren was sacred to the Druids, who used its complex songs for divination. The Irish name dreoilín and Welsh dryw both link the bird to the word for "Druid" or "seer".
Art my own.

The moss-carpeted base of a tree, which has many arms, and a cute face, and makes you realise why history is full of people who went out for walks in the countryside and wrote stories about bullshit creatures and events.

Very much enjoying this mossy octo-bear creature I found hiding in a tree trunk on a walk in the Blackdown Hills.

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.

Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

Thor's Helmet, taken from my balcony

Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359) is an emission nebula in the Canis Major region, visible only for a short period during the winter season. It also remains quite low on the horizon, right in the middle of the light-pollution belt. These are nearly 21 hours of integrated exposure. 🔭
